“Thrilled!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

So delighted to have been recommended this gem by a colleague. We headed up to escape the City for a weekend, and the trip proved to be far easier than expected - a quick flight and a short car journey (we hired a car at Glasgow airport so that we could see Scotland - but ended up barely moving from the armchairs in the bar's wonderful bay window - the view over the lawn, down to the Loch, and the moutains beyond - snow covered on our visit - just summed up perfect Scotland!)

The food was truly outstanding at every meal, above and beyond a lot of what I see in London. The biggest, juiciest mussles I have ever tasted! The full Scottish breakfast showed real quality. The variety of the menu, considering local and seasonal focus, was very impressive. Customer service is clearly one of this hotel's priorities, as the staff were warm, polite and attentive - and their wine recommendations were spot on.

As for the rooms - I slept like the dead! Very comfortably bedding and no noise. Lovely furnishings. The way this place has been decorated is wonderful - traditional without being stuffy or uncomfortable, just beautiful. Felt like a true country escape. After one weekend I felt like I had been on holiday for a week!

So thrilled. I plan to return for my birthday; it must be delightful in the summer!

Room Tip: A room with a view of the Loch would be the icing on the cake!

“Best present ever!!”

We stayed at the hotel on Friday the 3rd Feb 2012 and we loved it! On arrival we were meet by Magda who made our weekend as she was always on the ball and could not do enough for you. Fraser,Laura and even owner Murdo were lovely, very attentive, and a big thank you to Murdo for taking the time to explain the problem that had arisen with the table that we had requested it was so nice to have a hotelier actually tell you the truth and not some silly story. As I had worked in the hotel industry for 15yrs believe me I've heard some very weird stories that people make up to hid a problem. ( Can I make clear the problem was not the hotel's but another guest).

On arrival the hotel and our room were very cold and when mentioned this was sorted straight away but would have been nice to arrive to a warm hotel and room. Our room was stunning so much detail and went into the refurb and it showed truely outstanding!!

The meal in the hotel restaurant was amazing and a big thank you to whole kitchen brigade for a wonderful meal, a wee special thank you to the head chef for our tub of space dust it was a lovely thing to do.

We will be back and at this moment were looking into arranging to stay for the Hogmany Bash, well done to everyone.

“Better than Cameron House.....but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I was hoping to get a reply to an email i sent to the owners, after they contacted me about some concerns I had , but I have recieved no reply.
I have been contacted by other hotel managers and thus been able to cover any issues and ensure all was fair.
Whilst the hotel owners did contact me and cover some issues, opportunities at the hotel itself were missed.
Let me be clear and fair, the hotel is very nice, I travelled with 2 sisters for a family event and we all found the building charming.
It is not on a drive past location, but it is just 25 mins from Cameron House and should be given serious consideration as an alternative.
So what are my issues, well on night one there were 2 other parties residing, so 4 of the 14 rooms. A family birthday party arrived and with 2 staff on, I guessed service would be slow once they got seated and I was not wrong.
The dinner was not great, a rubbery burger, no seasoning detectable and large chunky chips which even though it is a potato was bland i believe with no seasoning or anything to make it a bit tasty. No condiments offered and no ability to get any as the 2 staff were focussing on the party.
The website says, handame shortbread daily, plush robes and organic soap. Neither I nor my sisters got any shortbread either day, a packet of custard creams arrived on day 2, they got robes when they asked and I did not bother asking for mine. I got soap and they did not.
I got an upgrade which was nice, the bed very soft and sheets very nice, but 2 mattresses on top of each other, which sort of made it look untidy.
A fire alarm on the first night which I hasten to add is not a criticism, what perplexed me was that in the email I recieved from the owners an apology was offered with lots of detail, yet on day 2 the owner saw us at the hotel and ignored us?
Breakfast after first night, excellent, hot, and a huge pot of tea for me.
Breakfast after 2nd night, small teapot, odd looking scrambled eggs and instead of the 2 sauasages we got on day one, just one each? There was only me, my sisters and another couple in the hotel, we all came down right away at 7 but why the change in how much we were served.
So, hence the 3 stars, got the impression as the hotel was so empty it did not try awfully hard.
Laura on reception who seemed to be there almost all the time, was a bubbly pleasant girl and does the hotel a great service.
So thats it, nice but.... having read the owners responses to criticism I expect one will appear at the end of this review, and so be it, but i am not new to this and always give credit where its due, i gave the hotel a chance to discuss before I wrote this.
And NO I was not looking for a refund and NO this review is not anonymours nor the site designed to be onesided.

As this guest implys in the response we did contact the guest immediately after they left when we learnt of their concerns.
We addressed all the issues that they had raised directly and beleived we had answered their concerns. However, as we take any feedback we receive as significant we also asked for any further comments that they might have. We duly recieved a reply outlining further issues some days ago. We do believe in investigating throroughly to provide meaningful feedback to guests which involves speaking to the staff concerned directly. This naturally takes some time as staff have had days off. This comment was posted by the guest only 4 working days after sending their email.
Finally, the owner disputes that they were ignored, guests are received warmly and with great hospitality to our hotel as the very many reports on this site pay testiment. However we do thank the guest for their comments and assure him that they have been addressed.
