“Cosy lakes hideaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Spent a night here mid Jan,sunny and sub zero outside.,cosy and friendly inside. Room modern and comfy nice and warm, well stocked drinks tray, good products in bathroom.
Evening meal very good, FANTASTIC fish and chips. Breakfast really good too.
What makes this place stand out though is the character of the building, and the friendly staff.
Oh, and the selection of beers..

Room Tip: We had room 5. Small but totally fine for 2 of us. If you want a view towards Elterwater ask for one...

Thanks very much!
Your review is great. We are glad you enjoyed the fish & chips. all our fish is delivered fresh everyday from Fleetwood! All our real ales are Cumbrian, we feel there is no point in shipping things from all over the country when we have so many great products on our doorstep.
Cheers the Brit Staff

“Pretty much kicked out!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We recently visited Britannia Inn, but didn't get a chance to eat there. We sat a table, but when the waiter finally arrived, she told us that they need the table to prepare it for breakfast for the next day, so we have to move (why wouldn't they prepare those tables after the guest leave is beyond me). There were no other tables available, so unfortunately we had to leave.

Also, there is 10% additional charge if you eat in the main dining room. You can avoid the charge if you decide to eat in the main bar area, but this is rather ugly and uninspiring. Just something to bear in mind.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry the dining room was closed on the evening you came to visit. We had been very quiet on the Tuesday night in question, so we took the decision to close the dining room at 20.30. There was plenty of seating in the front bar, Hall & Back Bar.
It is a shame you did not like the quaintness of the bar areas, so many people love the 'olde worlde' charm!
Thank you

“Delicious evening meal!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Stayed at the Langdale Estate this week in our time-share, and went to the Britannia for an evening meal on the Tuesday. This is a lovely, atmospheric inn, in a pretty village just a short drive from Ambleside, but a 5 minute walk from our accomodation. It was a very cold night, and the several log fires provided a cosy environment. The food, as usual, was delicious, in fact the grilled sea bass was the best I've had for a long time, and the fact it was served on a bed of asparagus made it that touch more perfect, my two favourites on one plate!! We have stayed here in the past, and can vouch for the excellent service, both in the restaurant and when staying B&B.

“A Fabulous True Lakeland Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Enjoyed a very pleasant two night break as a low-season treat. Have stayed at the historic Britannia before, but never at such a bargain price, hence the impulsive booking. Highly recommend you check out their low season prices, as this Inn is worthy even at their high season prices. Good they can offer free private parking which is located adjacent to the Inn. The friendly service was as pleasant as ever and evening meals excellent. Broad range of food and drink available served to a consistent standard at reasonable prices. Thoroughly enjoyed their amazing hearty breakfasts. Easily keep you going for the day if you opt for the full works. Nearly forgot to eat our lunch, as we did not feel hungry! Plenty of options are available for a lighter brekkie if you prefer. Loved the rustic cosy bars with log fires, comfortable restaurant, tastefully decorated and spacious bedroom with en-suite shower. Comfy bed, good quality furniture giving plenty of storage, consistent supply of hot water, fresh cotton bedlinen, well stocked tea tray, tv. Brilliant they allow well behaved dogs in some of their rooms and in the bar areas. Great they are open to serve food and drink all day. Plenty of pleasant outside seating to the rusticly flagged patio at the front of the Inn - a real sun trap on those sunny days. Gets pretty busy in the summer months. The Britannia is set in a fabulous location, Elterwater, offering plenty of linear or circular walks direct from this welcoming, true Lakeland Inn, to satisfy the novice, seasoned walker or day tripper.

Room Tip: Room 2 is lovely and spacious, offering nice views over the patio to the front of the Inn, the quain...

“New Year break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

A good 3 days. Excellent food, lovely warm, cosy atmosphere, great beer and friendly staff. Weather a little damp, but a great base from which to visit the south lakes. Will be going back.

Room Tip: Room 3 seems the biggest with private bathroom across the landing. Great view form the window.
