Really interesting spot, hard to get to, but not really part of the usual backwater Kerala region. Barely an island. You take a boat to get there, but the staff walk over a four-foot plank at one point on the island to get back onto the mainland. Very laid-back vibe, really dedicated to yoga and aruyvedic treatments, but not much of a spa for the rest of us, beyond lying around the pool, which is good. Free yoga class at 8 o'clock each morning, though the instructor was on the bossy side. Good friendly staff, decent but not tremendous food at the daily buffet, which is where you'll eat every meal. Service very slow for a la carte, so order 2 hrs in advance if going off the menu. Beautiful setting, nice little pool, lots to look at on the lake with the fishermen, coal carrying canoes, etc. The rooms are beautiful with all the old wood, but not very soundproof. On the second floor is more expensive but quieter. Arrange a 1-hr boat trip with a group; seeing the new massive developments on nearby islands and tiny old villages on other islands is worth it. The new developments may change the character of the area. All in all, our family liked it, largely because it was so different, and it's such a good place to chill. You won't see much of Kerala, but you can relax and/or take the treatments.
