“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

We stayed at this hotel our first two nights in Malta. It was a nice hotel, and the Palace was interesting. The room service was excellent, the food awesome. The breakfast was very good as well. The gym was in a bad state of repair. The machines looked like they were from the eighties and were falling apart and half the machines were non operational. We had a beautiful view of the ocean but unfortunately a band of dogs barked all night interupting our sleep. The room could have been cleaner. The staff were polite. We did not like the remote location of the hotel. We did not have a car so we felt very isolated by the location of this hotel. It would be more suited to people who like a very quiet and subdued holiday. All and all though a decent hotel.

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

This holiday was the best holiday I have ever had! Me and my husband got married in the Palace that is situated at the end of the pool area, The service was beautiful and he mea; was devine. The whole holiday cost us around the same as what it would cost to just have a service in england! anyway all of my wedding guests agree with me although most of them did not stay in the hotel with us as the wanted to be closer to the town.
which comes to my only bad point, the location, it was a 20 min walk to the local bus stop (even though the maltese say is 5 mins) and a further 10 min bus journey. but the hotel did put a FREE bus the the town and beach every hour, we used that alot!!

The room was a good size, perfect for us! the cleaners were friendly and very apologetic if they came in the room when we were in. We had clean towels every day if we wanted and the sheets were changed twice a week!

The food in the resterant was lovely, they had a one week rotor so we had the same as week one on week two but as there is so much choice everynight it ment we didnt have to fill up on everything we fancied! the waiters were very friendly and happy to meet any ofour reqierments.
The resturant also offerd a service where you could pay for a meal if you did not stay there, so we had our family come from their hotel for one night and they all fully enjoyed the meal.
we missed our first nights dinner because of the time of our flights so they gave us a voucher to use at lunchtime! :)
the pool was fun and my one year old enjoyed the small baby pool and there was a small hut that had toys in for when it was too hot for her outside!

we made use of the facilities, tennis courts, ping pong table, sauna and jacuzzi. They were all in goodquality except the jacuzzi did not have working bubbles but was nice and hot! also a small pay area and the castle gardens were fantastic for the children to run around without being in danger from the pool!

The wedding planner was really helpful answering all our questions before we went via email and she met us on the first day to see what we wanted (meal flowers etc) she also gave us her mobile number so we could contact her at any time, she spent the whole wedding day with us helping me get ready and looking after the children, she left after the meal when she knew we were all happy. And she also managed to get me and my husband the wedding night in one of the palaces grand suites! it had beautiful veiws and lots of space!

on one occation we had to visit the local doctor in the town (my daughter came out in a rash) She spoke perfect english and helped us with some cream and medicine. it was costly but worth it 30 euros for the doctor and 20 for the medication.

All in all we had a fantastic stay and would deffinately visit again! :) :) :)

“the atmosphere at this hotel compensates on any deficiencies it might has”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

we arrived to the hotel at dawn when it was dark all around. waking up at the room with it's thick walls and the view around it were our first wonderfull impression! yes, it is not fancy and the food needs to improve, but the atmosphere and the friendly staff compensate on that!

“if only”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

The statements made in this review are personal consideraions, other visitors experiences may be better or worse. The hotel is on the top of a hill behind the palace. It looks magnificent from the outside. The large sea view room that we occupied had a great view of the sea, about 1 km away across a vineyard and scrubland, and on the left a view of Gozo and Comino. The hotel is very flexible on meals in that if you miss an evening meal you receive a voucher for lunch. We arrived very late and missed our first evening meal and as we were leaving very late, at the end of or holiday, we were given a voucher for an evening meal for the last night. This hotel is long way from ANY other actiity. It is about 1 km from nearest bus stop along an unlit road. There was little entertainment provided, 3 nights in total in a 14 night stay. Taxis were available in the evening 8 eu for one way trip to 'town'. During the day a complementary shuttle bus was available to take you to the bus stop, the town and the beach and return at specified times. There was also a 7 euro return trip to valeta for 5 or more persons, we used this option a couple of times as we considered this a very good option. We found the bar prices reasonable especially as there is no competition. That is summary of the good points now the things that disturbed us.
The bathroom was clean and new on the sink side but the shower in the bath was rusty and the small shower shelf was dirty. The toilet was not scrupulously clean and had limescale deposits. We do not think that the bathroom or bedroom was cleaned for the first 4 days as there were rings left on the bath and litter on the bedroom floor. The balcony was not swept or cleaned and the ashtray left full so that cigarette ends were blown over the balcony which we had to pick up. The towels were changed every day and the beds were made. We think that we had a different maid after the first 4 days as the standard of cleaning did improve.
The menu for breakfast was always the same with a good choice for contenental but always scrambled egg, streaky bacon, sausage and baked beans. there was a reasonable selection of cereals.
The evening meal was OK with several options to suit most tastes. The quality varied from ok to good with a good salad selection and good desserts. We found the coffee from the cocktail bar awful with the only drinkable option cappaccinno and that was not that good. The hotel boasted a number of bars but the main bar 'charlies' was never open whilst we were there.
It is suppossedly a 4* but we think that it would be struggling to make 2*.
we were very disappointed with this hotel and will never return to this hotel
