We are actually on holiday as I write this.we have an apartment on first floor that overlooks the busy roundabout. I had seen many comments about barranco mainly to do with the spiral staircase. Yes they are difficult, but after a couple of days, they are fine. This is of course for reasonably capable people, those with walking ailments or disabilities may find it difficult.
The rooms are basic, but very clean. The maids have been in four times in one week. The only problem we had was one very flat pillow, but requested additional pillows at reception and that was sorted.
Our room had a flat screen tv but no remote control.
On suite bathroom, very clean, shower very good but you have to run the water for what seems ages to get hot water, but when it comes, it is very hot.
Kitchen very basic, we bring our own travel kettle which was a godsend.
Things to do, see or where to eat. Lots of excursions and pick ups are very close to apartments. Walking distance to las Americas, peurto colon and playas fanabe and Los Christianos in the other direction. Buses are very frequent and just across the way outside hotel Columbus. Two euros to get to golf del sur.
For the younger ones, good beaches, great surfing. The surf is up at the moment due to volcanic eruptions at el heirro. Veronica's bars and night clubs ten minutes away, but be warned that they lock the gates at barannco and you have to prove you stay here if coming in after two in the morning.
Lots of great food outlets, tango gives ten percent discount if staying here, the Chinese Next door is great with take away, regular meals or buffet for seven euros.
Our best meal was at montana restaurant and best value was three courses at Aberdeen Angus for eight euros, both places the food was great.
For those who want wifi access, then the a many bars with free wifi, just ask for the code while having a drink or food. Hotel Columbus has Munro Restricted wifi which is flakey at best, but you can sign up free and use it free but at a reduced access speed.
The anchor bar below and at the end of the apartments have free wifi so if you get one of the rooms at that end of the complex, you could get wifi from your room. We are at the other end so have to frequent the bar. Abdul on the bar makes you feel very welcome and looks after your needs, more that can be said for the waiting staff in the evening.
Overall we have had a great holiday and would return to barranco with no hesitation.
