“trip to Maspalomas, Gran Canaria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We have just returned from our trip to the Hotel Tabaiba in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria.
We were very lucky in that the weather was great with a little cloud and some strong wind for short periods, usually gone by 12 noon, so we were able to sit out every afternoon and relax in the sun. The hotel was excellent and we had taken the 'all inclusive' package which provided us with all but premium drinks and food all day if required. The self service at meal times was good with excellent choices and the waiters were always attentive. Although the hotel is about a 20 min walk to the beach, this provided us with exercise every morning and our one visit to the 'nudist beach' was an eye opener and not to be missed. We also walked the promenade every day and saw the human statues which were very entertaining apart from the designer shops to cater for every taste. The only minor drawback was the 'German' towel race every morning but once you were aware of this it was a joy to beat them at their own game. The evening entertainment was generally good.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool have evening sun.

Visited the Tabaiba early January as a well priced all inclusive family holiday. I travelled with my partner, parents and my younger brother and sister. We were the second drop off which made the day a lot easier and despite a problem with our rooms (down to first choice) the hotel staff sorted this very quickly (unlike first choice who proved very unhelpful). The rooms are very spacious and clean, we overlooked the front if the hotel and had a nice view of the fountains and mountains. On our first day we were late arriving and went to get food straight away. Unfortunately this was cold but within ten minutes they had stopped serving so we were a little late. We solved this by popping next door and Paying for a toasted sandwich until it was time for dinner. However I cannot fault the food at both the pool bar (hotdogs, burgers, chips etc) ANC the main hall. There was a main selection with a little added/changed each night. If you are a little fussy though like my Partner then the maspalomas princess restaurant is adjoining and you can always find something simple on their children's buffet table.
The staff at the hotel were polite, especially the gentleman who works the seating in the restaurant.
Unfortunately, alike most of the other reviews, I have to agree that the sunbeds are a nightmare. They are quite crammed together and the pool has quite a lit of shaded areas so unless you are very lucky then you have to move around throughout the day. One night myself and my Partner walked around the pool area around midnight after the entertainment to find that towels, pool toys etc had been left from the day by one family. Throughout the week this continued and the same family were in the same spot everyday. This should really be sorted by the hotel staff!
The pools are lovely and offer plenty of different areas however in January it was a little cold. I think the temperature in the pools was adjusted throughout the day as the pools were Warmer on certain days but you had to be brave enough to test them! The children's pools were warmer however and my brother and sister didn't hesitate to play everyday. The only other downfall of the pools is that they are surrounded by tiles which are quite slippery. A few people slipped on these during our weeks stay one of which was my brother who fell and cut his head.
The entertainment is average at the hotel. You get the typical animal shows and the odd surprise, some better than others. We spent every night in the downstairs bar rather than the piano bar which seemed to just play well known songs in different languages. The children's disco and entertainment is excellent.
The hOtel is situated alongside a pathway that leads to the shopping centres and beach. Me and my family would spend the day exploring and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the beach, however if you gave problems walking you may prefer to get a taxi which are not expensive. The area does not have s lot of local entertainment and you will need to get a taxi to places like playa del ingles. We done this twice but often preferred staying at the hotel.
Due to the time of year we did spend time walking to the market , beach and shopping centres. However a lot of the shops were closed down so don't expect great stores. The best shops we visited were down at the beach.
Overall, if you are looking for an enjoyable break with your family then look no further. This hotel is ideal if you are looking to spend time by the pool and have quiet evenings.
If you are looking for a livelier holiday then this hotel is not ideal for you.
We had a lovely time despite the odd little issues of sunbeds and pool tiles but would return again If the price is right.

Just returned from 2 weeks all inclusive at the Tabaiba Princess. Having read a few reviews before we left, I was concerned about the comments on staff attitude, which turned out to be totally unfounded. A few words of Spanish, even if you don't speak the language makes all the difference in the world! The reaction you get just for trying goes a long way in the type of service you receive. Hola, Buenos Dias, Buenas Tardes, Que Tal, (Hello, Good Morning, Good Afternoon, How are things?). I do not speak Spanish, so excuse me if they are not totally correct and it wasn't that difficult.
Overall a very good holiday. The variety and quality of the food was so good, we didn't eat out on a number of evenings as we had planned to, and revisit a number of restaurants after staying in an apartment in Melonares last year.
The only real disappointment was being packed in like sardines on the sun beds and that was if you were lucky enough to find one in the sun after people had been down early "reserving" theirs. The hotel policy states in the in room directory that this is prohibited and they really should do something to enforce it or remove it from their literature!!
Would certainly go again.

we were suprised to end up here as we were supposed to be going to the orqueda which was overbooked. we also recieved compensation, talk about getting lucky this is a good hotel which merits 4 stars. food is good quality plenty of choice, beer and wine good, wine could be cooler at times. the majority of staff cheerful and helpful boys in piano bars and downstairs great fun entertainment is good the odd night you have to go next door to the sister hotel to watch a show.you can take a beer with you as next door is only halfboard not all inc if your going make sure you watch the platters, blues bros and girl singer on monday.the only problems we found were the sunbeds which are plentiful but lots of them are not in the sun and you have to get up early to beat the germans and some brits to get a good spot. this hotel is very popular with elderly germans and brits but there are plenty of younger people there as well, from what i saw the old uns have just as much fun if not more than the young uns. we would go back to this hotel but at the right price

Room Tip: if your taking kids 2nd or 3rd floor
