By and large, our return visit went just as well as the same dates in 2011. This year, the hotel was much busier but again we were checked in quickly and given a welcome glass of Cava. Our arrival time was around 2 pm and there were three reception staff on duty. Our luggage was taken to our room by a porter. There had been a mis-understanding about our room requirement which could not be sorted out until the next day, but the staff were perfectly nice about it. This year we were in a 'de-luxe' rather than a 'premium' room. Still had very nice views and not so far to walk to/from the reception/dining area. Love the spacious 'wet room' facility in the bathroom. Most days half litre bottles of water were left free of charge in the room.
One of the more positive aspects of the hotel is the commitment of the whole staff. At all levels they are polite, well-trained and show an excellent rapport with each other. We were delighted that our favourite breakfast waiter ( Adam ) has been promoted to Head Waiter in the lunch/dinner restaurants. The breakfast is excellent and nothing ever seems to run out with an wonderful overall selection. There is also an endless supply of fresh orange juice and smoothies at a dedicated bar. Meals can be taken inside or outside, however this year we were not so lucky with the weather, so this was mostly inside.
The basic design of the hotel is quite stark and modern, and some folk may not find it to their liking. We were again convinced that it is not a hotel for young children. It is on several different levels, some with swimming pools. It is definately not push chair friendly and nothing for children to do. Also it does take time to accustom yourself to the area/locate of your rooms indicated by cactus type. Perhaps the most negative aspect ( at least in the winter months ) is the orientation of the hotel rooms. These mostly face east and so by 11-30 am do not get the sun. This also applies to the lower swimming pools which are not heated, and are therefore always cold. Against this, there is the lovely roof terrace which gets all day sun and has a large heated pool. None of this is likely to deter/affect the golfers, who make up the majority of the guests. Not playing this sport, we can't comment on this side of things
We have to mention that the costs of an Interent connection and the mini-bar are outrageous. There seem to be two computer terminals for the use of guests in the lounge area. The new mini-bars do not allow you to store your own drinks. There is still a hotel bus to take guests to/from the beach in Maspalomas. Be sure to check the times though as they run to a timetable. Parking a car under the hotel costs €7 per day. You can park free on the lower road, although it can sometimes be a longish walk back to the hotel.
We will probably stay there again, as the quiet location, the comfort of the rooms and the superb breakfast are what a relaxing break is all about
