We stayed here for a few days over Christmas, hoping for a nice relaxing break, and overall were pretty disappointed. Things got off to a bad start - we arrived at quite a busy time, which is obviously nobody's fault, but it took an age to get checked in by the receptionist and we were the only ones there who weren't offered a welcome drink...I didn't particularly want one but it would have been nice to be afforded the same courtesy as everyone else.
The biggest problem that arose came on our first night, when a serious issue with our room meant we had no choice but to move. This was annoying enough in its own right but what really rankled was how poorly it was handled by the staff - it took several calls to reception (each time being told we would be called back in 5 minutes with details of our new room, which of course never happened) before we were eventually able to make the switch. By then our plans for the evening had been completely thrown off kilter.
We had breakfast in the main restaurant every day, and the only word I can use to describe it is chaotic. Guests have to find their own tables rather than being shown to one and there was nowhere near enough staff on duty, which meant long queues - particularly at the hot food counter. My wife at one stage was waiting nearly 20 minutes for a fried egg - ridiculous!
As for the rooms themselves, they are nice enough but overall there is no way I would class this as a 5star hotel - 4 at best, and that's probably pushing it. Needless to say we wouldn't return.
