Yet another wonderful holiday, thankyou Magnolias. Having heard through the grapevine that there had been a number of staff changes since last year, I was a little apprehensive about how I might find things this year, given that one of the reasons so many return year after year is because you know just what to expect. I need not have feared. Arriving after office hours in the dark, and hay presto, the door opens and there is Cindy grinning from ear to ear. Changes yes there had been, but there was the continuity in the form of several former staff members who had returned.
Things just got better, a new chef, and encouragement to go for a three course evening meal, and wow what food. All fresh cooked produce and to tip top standards too. Many who in more recent years had taken to eating at the restaurants in Meloneres, on seeing what the new chef was producing, never went out in the evening again. What’s more, the prices were cheaper and so too was the wines. It was good to see a real buzz about the bar and restaurant again. Lunch time tapas a must.
It always has been difficult to get book in, being so popular and with so many returning year after year. But it is the intimacy of the small cosy complex that makes Magnolias so special. Long may it remain so.

“Very relaxing”

We have recently returned from Magnolias Natura after a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. We have been there many times before and it never disappoints, when we first visited it was our first time to go to a naturist resort and we were apprehensive on the first day, but we had no need to worry and quickly relaxed and enjoyed our stay. Since then we have only gone on naturist holidays.

There have been changes to the management of the complex and the bar restaurant is now run by the hotel and there have been some changes to staff, prices have been reduced and are now very good value. All the staff are very friendly and you get the feeling that they are doing all that can to make your stay as good as it can be. The bar stays open late and the guests can stay and chat for as long as they like.

As has been mentioned in other reviews what sums this complex up is relaxation. There is always a good mix of guests and you quickly meet new and old friends. Anyone planning their first trip to a naturist resort need have no worries you can be sure that some of the other guests are first timers too.

The bungalows are spotless and have everything required. We have gone half board and B&B in the past but have found that self-catering suites us as you have the choice to decide from day to day what you feel like doing.

A car is not necessary as taxies are very cheap, reception will call one for you, but if you walk
a short distance you will be able to wave one down in a few minutes.

This is the perfect place to unwind and relax we planning to go back in the early in July; the only complaint that we would have has been mentioned in other reviews and it is that the television in the bungalows have little choice and have not been upgraded for years. Wi-Fi is limited to near the reception where the only Wi-Fi router is located; it would take very little to improve these facilities, as even on holidays it is good to keep in touch.

“More than satisfied”

My wife and myself have recently travelled back from Magnolias feeling a little disappointed because as we flew over the Bay of Biscay we thought of those people who were still there and enjoying Magnolias Hallowe'en Night. If it was half as good as our life there was for the previous two weeks it must have been fantastic.

We have nothing but praise for the staff, facilities and the general atmosphere at the place.

The Reception night was a great idea giving everyone the chance to meet each other. The reduction in prices at the bar and also for the outstanding cuisine seemed to induce a lot of people to remain on site. Over two dozen diners was not uncommon. All this helped to create the impression of a international social club.

I will not be drawn into that stupid 'old staff' v 'new staff' argument as promoted by one reviewer (was he at Magnolias or Mongolia?). 'Comparisons are odorous - Shakespeare', although it was obvious where his help came from. Suffice to say that we have been going to Magnolias once or twice a year since just after it opened and have enjoyed it every time, although to be honest this last holiday was the best by far.

Many thanks to all the staff and all the friends we met while we were there for making our holiday so enjoyable.

When booking, the management do their best to accommodate your requests but if you can't get a poolside bungalow you don't have to walk more than 25 yards to the bar and pool area.

That's enough for now as we have to rebook for next year.

“All Change, or is it?”

Having been to this complex a few times in the past, we were initially very apprehensive regarding changes to the Bar/Restaurant and staff as we have some wonderful times there and indeed at the complex as a whole.

Bar/Restaurant Staff: Three staff members are no longer around and were sorely missed. However, things move on and change is inevitable fact of life. Another two staff members remain and a third has returned following an absence of a couple of years or so. However, every single member of staff we encountered demonstrated great attentiveness, were highly customer focussed and very friendly throughout our stay. They all made us feel welcome and at home – everyone appeared to have enthusiasm for the customer.

Food & Drink: No complaints whatsoever – the food was of excellent quality and very well presented (regrettably better than many restaurants I’ve been to in the UK). The new chef makes virtually everything from scratch himself using fresh, locally sourced produce. Portion sizes were not an issue for us, in fact we could not manage all of our meal on three or four occasions and had to skip dessert on a few more. A small salad garnish formed a part of many meals, which for this climate is the norm. I was presented with fries as part of my meal on one occasion only over a two week period. A reduction in food and drinks prices came as a welcome addition also. As a result, we actually spent approximately as much as we usually do but spent far more time eating and drinking within the complex. Smoking is only permitted outside the bar/restaurant building - these areas appear to be considerably more popular than inside and might benefit from improved lighting in the evening for tables next to the pool.

Reception: No staff changes here should go some way towards appeasing any changeophobes and the service remained highly professional, efficient and unobtrusive throughout our stay.

Accommodation: Still comfortable, peaceful and relaxing and exceptionally clean and tidy throughout. The lack of television channels in the bungalows remains the only issue (one English, one German, one Dutch, one French and 2 Spanish – not favouritism as they both were tuned to the same channel!). The bungalows are cleaned on 6 out of 7 days per week and fresh bed linen and towels provided regularly.

The Complex: Beautifully tended gardens and spotlessly clean pool area complete with jacuzzi. Many guests prefer to go to the beach and, although slightly uncomfortable to lie on, there remain an adequate number of sun loungers for remaining guests to punish themselves on. The nearest osteopath can be located via the Internet using the Wi-Fi Internet hotspot around the bar/restaurant area. Alternatively, a 3G dongle can be obtained from Reception for a refundable deposit plus couple of Euros or so per day for those who prefer to be alone with their Internet.

Conclusions: A quiet (if slightly remote) location but if it’s a quiet, peaceful and relaxing holiday you seek then this is still the place to beat.

“Not so good as before”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

There has been some major changes when I visited Magnolias this time. Some good, and some I think not so good. The majority of the catering staff that used to work here have left the complex. Which is such a shame, They made peoples holidays. It is now not the same as it was. I got the impression that the new catering staff were not that interested in the customers, they were just here to serve food and drinks.
I stayed at the complex in September on Half Board ( Dinner, Bed & Breakfast ) I must say that the Breakfast service is good. Petra is great. I found the Dinner service to be the reverse. Very small portions. One particular night for starters I had Melon with soreno Ham. I had 3 small triangles of Melon with half slice of ham, and plenty of salad, was not impressed. Main course was Chicken in Mushroom sauce with salad and Chips. By the time I got the main course it had got dark, and while eating outside by the pool the only light was a small T-light, just could not see what I was eating. After a couple of days you just get fed up with Salad and chips with every main course, so decided to venture out for meals a couple of times. Best thing I ever did.
As I said at the beginning, now that most of the staff have gone it feels completely different, Yes, the bar still remains open late, but while I was there no one was drinking. The bar used to be full of people when the old staff were there. Surely that must say something is missing.
Due to these changes I do not think I would go back to this complex, especially on Half board.
To stay at this complex it is beginning to be expensive just to have the privalige of being naked 24/7.

Room Tip: When booking ask to have a Bungalow near the pool. Dont bother with half board.
