“Can recommend!!!”

We arrived from the airport about midnight and were relieved to find the night porter on duty. The bungalow was more than adequate for my wife and I for a week.
The one bedroomed bungalow fittings were a bit dog-eared but kept very clean. We sat and watched the staff going through a neighbouring bungalow and it wasn’t a quick wipe over……….they blitzed it !! Everything out of the cupboards and furniture moved to clean. Admittedly we didn’t see this but we could hear and see her at the sink.
The room was visited most days and the beds made, towels changed 3 times although the mattresses are built to last (firm to say the least). Didn’t see a bug in or around the bungalow all week and believe me my wife made me check.
As normal no electric kettle but that’s normal. Washing up liquid, cloth and tea-towel supplied. Loads of hot water for showers or bath. The bathroom/toilet wiffed a bit sometimes but this is foreign land !!
Only Spanish telly but it makes you appreciate the Beeb. Good clean pool (unheated) and sunbathing area. Didn’t try the restaurant.
Although we were near the road the site was quiet and no hoards of folks at the weekend. It seems that some of the bungalows are privately owned….good sign.
We hired a car for the week so walking/catching the bus to the beach wasn’t an issue. Two minutes walk to the Faro II (see Broncemar II reviews) for supermarket and restaurants.
Really good value for money accommodation, for a price that you would pay for a summer holiday pitch on a camp site.

“Basic but ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We stayed at maspalomas lago bungalows in August 2010. It was one of the cheaper holidays to Gran Can on the thomas cook website so we werent expecting anything too fancy and what we got is what we expected.

The place was ok and had a nice pool. The food wasnt great and the staff couldnt speak much english. I think it was 5 euros for a small breakfast and 7 for a large, which consisted of, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs and beans. It was ok, but theres probably better and cheaper elsewhere.

The bungalow was small and basic and the cooking faclities were quite poor, just 2 hobs and a toaster. There was a tv which had bbc news etc but you had to feed it euros to keep it going.

There are 2 rows of bungalows, the inner ones patios face onto the pool, we were in the outer and would have liked one facing the pool but it was quiet where were but still just a stones throw from the pool. There was quite a few small cats hanging about and they didnt seem friendly and hissed a lot, but they became more friendly when we fed them. We also had the odd cockroach making an appearance but it was only a couple of times.

The location was ok, but depends on what your preference is. We never really spent any time in maspalomas, so cant say too much about that, we preferred to go into playa del ingles where it was more lively. We were right on the edge of playa del ingles and we could walk to the yumbo centre in 10 minutes. The beach was a fair tek, I'd say around a 20 minute walk. We usually stay in a hotel in Playa del ingles but thought we would have a change. It was ok, but I think we would go for the hotel in the livelier part next time we go to gran can. We just got sick of the walking and the taxis home everynight. in saying that though, the taxi was only 3-4 euros to the yumba centre. So overall, if your looking for peace and quiet this is ok, but if you want lively and close to the nightlife, stay in Playa del ingles.

The place is ok, bit quiet, bit basic, but we couldnt really have too many complaints and was what we were expecting for what we paid.

Almost forgot to mention the calima. OMG. Its when the sand storm from the desert comes over. It was quite an experience. The temperature was 40-50 dgrees C. It lasted a day and is the first time ive ever experienced it having been to the canaries a few times. This is when you really need air con, we bought a fan for 20 euros but it was a waste of money. It was like a hairdrier blowing hot sand for a whole day. I found it very uncomfortable and my girlfriend who has asthma could barely take 5 minutes of it outside.

after reading mixed reviews we were open minded about what to expect, we arrived on a wednesday, nice bungalow, but crawling with minute black bugs on every surface, no television so i went to reception, they said, we have no satellite and only 5 spanish channels,in lowcostholiday.com they say that there is satellite tv, wrong, so we didnt get a t.v, no kettle, no air con or even a simple fan, the windows left open at night mean the flea ridden cats just stroll in, but peaceful by the lovely pool, untill friday when the locals arrive, i can only describe them as drunken rowdy and very loud cramming 8 or more into each bungalow, for three days and nights the noise was horrendous, upon complaining to reception, they agreed with me and apologised but could do nothing about it, on monday morn the peace was restored and we watched as the cleaners and maintenance men repaired and were disgusted in the state their own countrymen had left the properties in, confiding in us that it was a regular occurrence in the lago complex, we last stayed 5 years ago in the neighbouring los tunos bungalows, they were great by the way, the faro 2 shopping centre was then a thriving community with every type of business , now only a couple of restaurants and two little supermarket type shops remain ,this is not mentioned in the resort description that recommends the faro 2 shopping centre, we advise anyone to avoid the maspalomas lago at all cost.

Room Tip: go to ingles or melonares, maspalomas seems dead.

“LOVELY STAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

Stayed at this apartment in July 2010 for a week with my girlfriend. Was bliss.
The white part running around the pool for you to lie on and keep cool was a good feature. Apartments were very clean and big. Doors were abit stiff but nothing to complain about.
Would come back here time and time again.
Only bad thing is that its VERY busy with the spanish and lots of topless ladies...I didnt mind ;). On a serious note, lots of screaming kids but I think it all depends on the time you come. We must of hit the holiday season.
