I stayed at this hotel for 1 week, and although the bungalows are quite small, the rest of the hotel makes up for this in sheer relaxation and beauty. Lets face it, you're not going to spend a lot of time in your room other than sleeping, and the beds are so comfortable that I had the best sleep I've had in years!
I stayed half board and the food was lovely. Also, it's worth noting that during the breakfast times and dinner times (each of which are several hours), you get unlimited free coffee, and the coffee was utterly incredible. I spent a lot of time sitting at the pool bar, reading a book and drinking what must have amounted to their entire coffee supply!
The area around the hotel is very quiet, so there isn't much of a nightlife, but this suited me perfectly. I was there to relax and unwind, not to party until the small hours of the morning. If you do want night life though, Meloneras and Playa del Ingles are quite nearby. In the evenings, after enjoying some of the entertainment, I preferred to walk back to my bungalow and sit out on the patio for a while. Many people had the same idea, and you could see families and groups of friends sitting outside with bottles of wine, just enjoying the surroundings.
I found that some of the staff spoke English very well, but others had trouble understanding me. I think this is because this area if frequented by Germans more often than Brits, and so German is more widely spoken. This never amounted to a problem though, since I was always understood enough to communicate effectively. One good thing about the prevalence of German tourists is that the area has adopted some German traditions - namely coffee and cake deals. I sat in a wonderful outdoor restaurant with a large slice of chocolate cake and a delicious coffee for only 2 Euros.
The free bus to the beach stops right outside the hotel, although the beach is actually within relatively easy walking distance if you'd rather take in the surroundings (the streets near the hotel are lovely to wander around). I would recommend going to the reception and picking up some leaflets, there are coach tours to some of the mountainous regions of Gran Canaria and they're quite cheap, I realised this too late unfortunately and missed out.
I loved this hotel and if/when I go back to Gran Canaria, I would definitely return here. Oh, I forgot to mention, if you go in winter (from November 15th onwards), the pool outside the bar is heated, so I recommend swimming in this one since the other will be cold.
