Myself and my boyfriend are just back from 9 nights in Hotel Dunas. We had one of the villas for the duration of our stay and we really loved it. We were right at the end of the resort, far away from the main pool and the restaurant/entertainment areas which suited us perfectly. We stayed on a B & B basis, the breakfasts were really great, lots of choice, everything we ate was fresh and tasty.
We lay by the back pool most days, lovely and quiet and no problems getting a lounger as we were up early enough, had lunch in our villa and then would walk to the beach area for dinner (10 mins, people saying more must be slow walkers!). We loved the location, it was just right for us, even with the crooning every night from the restaurant next door, it was always finished by 10.30pm. Speaking of that restaurant, AVOID, the staff were rude and the food well below average. The food at the pool bar in Hotel Dunas was nice enough, nothing too fancy but did the job for us on a couple of lazy days when we didn't feel like making our own lunch. I can't comment on the dinners as we went out every evening.
Our villa was very comfortable and clean, all the previous talk of cockroaches definitely didn't apply to us, we didn't see any apart from a very dead one on our last day, outside! We found the accommodation rates to be very reasonable for what we got. I found all the staff members, including reception staff, to be friendly, efficient and helpful. Special mention to the wait staff during breakfast and in the pool bar, they were all really lovely.
There is a bus-stop right outside the hotel, the local buses are regular and a very good service, we took a trip to Puerto Mogan, well worth a visit even though the clifftop roads were a little terrifying! We also went in to Playa Del Ingles for dinner one night, had a nice meal in Mamma Mia in the Yumbo Centre. Definitely worth a visit.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Hotel Dunas to friends and family and we will be back!
