My wife and I have just returned from a superb 10 day holiday at the Villa del Conde. We joined Swiss friends, who had chosen this hotel, to celebrate a family birthday. From the moment we arrived in the stunning, cathedral-like, reception area, with its huge chandelier, the hotel exuded an air of style and sophistication. The welcoming cava and orange went down well during our rapid and trouble-free check in. Our room, 5165, located in block I adjacent to the main building, faced directly west, thus enabling us to enjoy the sun going down into the Atlantic each evening from our balcony. Young families were arriving, as this was half term, but the resort predominantly caters for more mature couples.
The resort was a joy to explore with masses of immaculately tended palms and semi tropical plants. The five pools were unique, ranging from the sandy area pool, ideal for the youngsters, to the adult only, tranquillity pool. No need to reserve sun loungers – there were more than enough to go round. Refreshments were always available from roaming waiters throughout the grounds.
The main Plaza buffet restaurant provided an incredible variety of dishes to suit all tastes, both at breakfast and dinner times. Specific dietary requirements were catered for without any problem. My wife has a dairy and gluten intolerance, but she only needed to speak to the Maître d’ for him to give appropriate advice or supply her with suitable alternatives. The other restaurants, Ovo (contemporary) and El Patio (Italian) provided “a la Carte” menus for a supplement of 18 euros, based on two visits. Alpendre provided salad-buffet grill lunches.
The service received from all levels of staff was professional, very helpful, friendly, and of the highest standard for guest care. The servicing of the rooms was exemplary with towels etc. changed twice daily.
For us, the Villa Del Conde deserves a 5.5 star status. We will return at a future date, but if you are looking to visit this part of Gran Canaria, place this beautiful hotel at the top of your list. Enjoy its elegance, ambiance and welcome.
Just a small observation – why don’t builders of hotels in warmer climates install adequate sound proofing in floors and walls? There is nothing more annoying than the folk who patrol their rooms late at night or early morning in high heels or heavy shoes and who decide to move furniture!
Room Tip: Rooms at level 5 upwards are above tree line and command better views
