“Wow , What an amazing Hotel !!!”

Absolutely 5 Star treatment from arrival to departure , My wife and I celebrated our 25 th wedding anniversary there late January .
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody looking to have a relaxing time together , I would not recommend it for young families.

The staff are first class and all very helpful and friendly. The food is excellent.

During the time we stayed , the typical guest was over 45 and probably not English , which probably varies with the time of the year.

There are plenty of very good Restaurants within 5-10 minutes walk down the promenade , straight out the back of the Hotel.

We will definitely go back to this Hotel , and we have never been back to the same Hotel Twice before.

Room Tip: Ask for a Sea View , there are so many different types of rooms , However anything with Sea View is...

“Fabulous winter getaway”

An amazing place to stay. Staff are friendly and the cleanliness is a real eye opener - every part of the hotel was cleaned 24/7. The complex is huge and beautifully laid out. It takes a while to find your accommodation and quickest way back to it but after a day it's easy. Rooms are spacious with large bathroom and walk in wardrobes. We paid extra for a sea view room which was well worth it. The buffet breakfast is top class with every taste catered for. We stayed bed & breakfast which was nice because there's a promenade to Meloneras village (about 800m left towards lighthouse from hotel gate) with an abundance of excellent restauraunts/bars/cafes and shops. Menus are varied with prices to suit most pockets and the food was delightful - we particularly liked the friendly service at Faro's and at the Italian. All the staff were attentive wherever we went - making sure we were near a patio heater on chilly evenings and chatting to us during service. To the right of the hotel gate the promenade takes you into Meloneras Playa - a small beachside area with more cafes and restaurants with less expensive menus than the Faro area, but just as friendly. We did eat in 2 of the hotel restaurants - the Italian and Mediterranean - and found them no more expensive than in Meloneras Village. There are hundreds of sunbeds with parasols lining the 5 pools within the hotel and whilst, inevitably, some people put their pool towels on them to reserve them, there was absolutely no need to do so. You don't need to take cash with you to the pool area or anywhere else within the hotel complex as you pay for drinks/food etc using your room card which goes on your account. The real magic for us was the transformation of the complex at night when an array of coloured lights adorns the buildings and the trees and huge fountains are turned on in the middle of the pools. The central plaza turns into an open air arena with nightly entertainment. We enjoyed Pavoratti & Friends, a Beatles tribute band, a Beijing acrobatic group, a Vanessa May tribute fusion musical group, and an international dance group with spectacular Flamenco dancing. All the guests sitting around little candlelit tables joined in whilst enjoying their after dinner drinks - fabulous!

We really have no complaints bar the fact that this 5 star hotel charges you 2.30 euros a day to use your room safe and there are no tea/coffee making facilities in your room.

We'd certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter, especially away from central plaza area. Sea view rooms well worth payin...

“A slice of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

After having just returned from 1 week's holiday here I can honestly say that all the good reviews which helped us make our choice in the first place were spot on, and the negative ones were mostly vastly exaggerated.
It has all been said before but to re-iterate: The grounds are absolutely stunning, lush green foliage, 7 gorgeously maintained pools, tidy, clean, everything you would want from premises on your holiday. The service is amazing and the staff do all they can to help you. The food is absolutely the best I have ever tasted on holiday. The breakfast buffet was amazing and they even had freshly squeezed orange juice in dispensers. At dinner they had the best array of desserts I have EVER seen, truly with such attention to detail, plus a chocolate fountain. The mains were amazing, they had sushi and the presentation was absolutely stunning. I put on 2 kilos unfortunately but I could not resist the food! This is not a place to go if you are watching your weight and have no discipline! It did not have a Butlins like feel to it as so many of these hotels do, again, it could be because we did not go at peak season.
Housekeeping was amazing. They check twice and give you whatever you ask for (tip - they don't give slippers - you have to ask for them and you need them on the stone floors!) and they leave 4 lindt chocolates in the evening! We did not find it noisy in the slightest although we went off season. The entertainment was of a very high quality - no Elvis impersonators. The standard was immense. The rooms are lovely - a walk in closet and a great size. The matresses are not rock hard as some people claimed - we brought a matress topper just in case but all was well.

Of all the negative comments (and we tried to read them all) I will list the ones I agree with:
1) The grounds are truly huge and it is easy to get lost. Thank God we had a porter who accompanied us to the room. Please insist on this as this place is so huge.
2) The coriddors are indeed long and draughty and the rooms are cold. Thanks to a tip on here we knew to ask for a heater. Initially the porter said we would have to pay for it (!) but it was not so in the end. The rooms are not warm in "winter"
3) You have to pay to use the indoor pool as a package with the Thalasso
4) The gym is tiny, has no air conditioning or windows and had a bit of a cell-like appearance. I took one look and left again
5) The pools are cold, even the heated ones
6) Because of its location it is very windy there compared to hotels down the road. We had to chase the sun and spend some time every day searching for the place which had the least wind
7) Extras are indeed expensive - internet, safe etc
8) The miniatures are quite basic - you do not get body lotion nor conditioner unless you ask

I would most certainly return here.

“A Plush Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

WARNING! My reviews tend to be long, but hopefully informative. My husband & I had a week (16-23 Jan) at the Villa Del Conde. We have visited the hotel twice before, so we knew our way around. The hotel resembles a church from a distance & in fact the reception is an adaption of one of the oldest churches in Gran Canaria. When you enter you feel that you are in a cathedral with high vaulted ceilings. It's stunning. The staff at reception are efficient , friendly & very helpful. I had emailed in advance to request the same room we had stayed in previousy & they gave us the room we asked for, with a bottle of champagne on ice ( I think that may have been because we were returning guests) waiting for us. We had a standard room in Zone H , as it's a quiet area, near to the heated "quiet" pool ( no children allowed). THere are no tea/coffee making facilities, so I take my travel kettle/tea/coffee/sugar/mugs/spoon & buy milk from the departure airport . I take my own soap as I can't be doing with those tiny squares they give you. There were toiletries provided & towelling robes ( I asked the cleaner for slippers & she happily gave them from her trolley). There are soap/shampoo dispensers in the shower & over the bath. The shower is a separate cubicle with twin glass doors. There is also a small separate area with the toilet & bidet. The hairdryer is great but I personally found it too heavy, & I always take my travel one anyway. There is a walk in wardrobe with plenty of fixed wooden double hangers ( 30 actually!) There is a safe (16.10 euros for the week). Use your room key to activate the safe. On the inside of the safe door insert your card & pull it out quicky. If you've registered correctly you will get a green light. If you get a red light just keep trying. Then follow the 1-4 instruction on the front of the safe door. You enter your code to open it. Just remember when closing it, hold the door shut, enter your code & press "lock".Underneath the safe there is one drawer ( undies) , & two pull out shoe racks. Opposite that there is a tall open six drawer unit. There are two spare pillows in this unit & you can pay for different types if you prefer ( varying daily rate of 3 to 6 euros). The floor is tiled & it can be quite noisy if ladies above you do not use the slippers provided. There is a card in your room giving you options as to what time of day you would like your room to be made up.At night you will get a knock at your door from a lady giving you "good night" chocolates" & offering you clean towels. If you're out of your room she comes in & leaves the items anyway! The beach towels are in the bathroom. There's a flat screen tv in the room with mainly German channels ( 33-38 is English news/sport, 125 Discovery Max has English programmes at certain times). There are details of all meal times in the room. There were more children at the earlier dinner sitting. If you don't drink all your wine ask the waiter to keep it for you ( he puts your room number on the bottle). They don't have English sausage or bacon. They do have everything else you can think of, & the local bacon is ok. If you like brown sauce on your breakfast ask for HP but pronounce it the Spanish way "acheh pey". We felt the food overall was not as good as we had a few years ago. There was a good choice but we felt the quality had slipped. Having said that it was still fine & would not put us off from returning. There are two a la carte restaurants that you pay for "Ovo" & " El Patio" ( book the day before you want to dine). We didn't bother as we felt the food in the main restaurant was good enough. There are 5 swimming pools ( one with a man made beach for the children). The largest is overlooked by the "Alpendre" grill & salad bar restaurant ( lunch). There are 2 small rectangular pools just off The Plaza ( where the evening entertainment is held). The "quiet" pool is heated & children are not allowed. The entertainment is not bad. There is a resident band & you can see what is on for the week by looking in the "tunnel" which takes you to the pool with the beach ( details of nightly acts are on the tunnel wall). There is a good walk either way when you exit the hotel via the back gate. Take your room key to enable you to get back into the hotel when using this gate. If you turn right out of the gate it's quite uphill & dark. There's a few restaurants & a shopping mall that hasn't quite made it! When you turn left it's very flat. After about 10 minutes you reach the first supermarket ( they have lots of English biscuits etc & fresh milk). There's a small shopping mall with 2 floors. There are designer shops too. Keep walking & you will reach more restaurants & more designer shops. You will eventually reach the lighthouse & the start of the sand dunes. All in all we had a great time & will definitely do our best to return to the Villa Del Conde.

Room Tip: Zone H is quiet & sunny if you go to the 4th floor. Don't bother to upgrade. Standard rooms...

“NO HELP TO ELDERLY FOLK WITH EXPENSIVE CHARGES”

We stayed for week in January with our son who had separate room.

We are elderly and wanted room for bit longer. Totally unhelpful with exhorbitant charges for late stay and only allowed us one room.

No one to help my son or myself with luggage. Had to call down several times and told no one available to help at all until my son insisted.

Meanspirited and unhelpful with slow service.

Dont go here unless able bodied with lots of loot!
