I didn't get to see the inside of other hotels but on the outside, Vila de Tossa was a lot fancier looking than the others. I absolutely loved my stay there. Our room was absolutely gigantic: a little "foyer" at the entrance, a huge room, and even an extremely private terrace. In terms of service, the front desk people were adequately nice. I actually got served complimentary sangria while I waited for my room (you can't check in until 3 pm, essentially, but they will hold your bags for you. I have found this everywhere I travelled in Catalunya). They seemed to be trying to be as nice as possible considering one American woman lost her mind on one of the receptionists because the room was not ready.
The complimentary breakfast was really, really nice. No eggs but they had hot items like weiners. Excellent selection and very satisfying.
My only complaint is that the hotel does not have a parking lot--there are roofless outdoor parking lots (basically just a dirt pit) a couple of blocks away, at the time we were there it cost about 18 euros for the day to park.
We LOVED Tossa though, we wish we could have spent more time there. Very relaxing atmosphere, lovely people, the beach was beautiful, the 12th century walled "old town" is worth spending a few hours at and possibly even eating there, there are glass bottomed boat tours and the surrounding area is luscious.
