We stayed at Hotel Hermes for thirteen days with our 6 year old daughter and our dog. This was one of the few places in Tossa where our dog could stay. We stayed up on the 4th floor which had a large patio with beautiful views of Tossa. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. If I come back to Tossa I plan to stay here again dog or no dog! Thank you to the very kind women who work at Hotel Hermes who made our stay even more special. There is internet but you have to go to lobby area or outdoor patio to use it. It is only one euro for a beer so you can relax and have a cold one while you use the internet!

Have to pay additionally for the safe deposit box. Luckily air conditioning was not needed during our stay due to the windy weather, otherwise you should ask and most likely additionally pay at the reception for turning on the air conditioner. sometimes there was no hot water. Very bad sound isolation between the rooms.
However this hotel is situated in perfect holiday place. The drinks and the breakfast in the hotel is cheap, the location of the hotel is only 10 meters from the bus station, and it s only 5 min walk from the beach.

I found the Hotel Hermes to be a perfect little 1 star hotel in the nice little beach resort town of Tossa de Mar. We weren't sure what to expect since you are really rolling the dice with 1 star hotels (45 euro/night), but it turned out to be a clean, well kept little spot with all the basic amenities that we needed. Both our room and our friends room had little balconies that overlooked the main road--more of a strolling road than a busy main drag--and the mountains surrounding the town. I would say it was about a 8 minute walk to the old part of town and the beach, which was perfect for our needs. There is also a big grocery store about 3 blocks away where you can stock up for picnic lunches and replenish any beachy needs you have.

The hotel has 2 computers for the internet (5o cents per 15/mins) and a cute little bar and patio where you can buy 1 euro canas of beer, which is a great deal! The view from the top of the hotel where the sun deck is is great--all the old town and castle, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains with houses tucked into the hills.

The only negative thing I can say about the hotel is that the pillows were a bit hard--and I like firm pillows normally.

We also had a rental car and had no problem finding parking for it very close to the hotel, which felt safe.

The main reason we were in Tossa de Mar was to see the Tour de France come though on its way from Girona to Barcelona--and it came right through town directly in front of the hotel!!!! What a great experience. The only negative thing about Tossa was the large amounts of obnoxious teenage groups swarming the beach around sunset--but teenagers are teenagers, sooo....

We also had 2 incredible dinners while in the town--the first at a little pizza spot run by 2 young Italian guys--it was named Melina and had some of the best thin crust wood-fired pizza I have ever had in my life--not to mention bottles of tasty Lambrusco for 7 euros each. Highly recommended! The second place was a little tapas spot up by the castle near the little cove beach. This spot was called Tapes Torrades/La Lluna Bar and we got incredible seafood tapas and sangria there. We went for a pre-dinner snack around 6pm, and loved the food so much we ordered more and turned it into a full early dinner. It was unbelievably quaint. Recommended!

I stayed here as a solo traveller and thought that, through no fault of the Hermes, the package holiday from Thomsons was overpriced. The Hermes is on a busy road near the bus station, but is close to several shops, cafes and bars. It did have its own unique charm, but I found my single room a little cramped for the price I paid. There is a swimming pool and terrace on the roof, but this also looked much smaller than in brochure and could have done with some updating. There was a nice little bar in hotel, but this older man who seemed to be working there most of the time was quite grumpy and snappy. Also, the hotel was not doing evening meals as the brochure said. The breakfast was very simple, mostly bread and cheese, but the buffet was well stocked up. The owner, Isabelle was a very pleasant lady, who was recoverring from being ill,so I can sympathise to a degree.
The town of Tossa is good for shopping, beaches, cafes and restaurants etc, etc and the castle is lovely to walk round. Eventhough its busy here, there are plenty of hideways to find near the sea. I was taken by a seafront hotel that seemed to be covered in greenery, like it had been made straight from a huge tree. There is one side road where you can find several English style cafes-in one of these I think I had the best ice cream dessert I've ever tasted, called 'The Bali'. These cafes are good prices too. The thing I did notice about Tossa was do not expect the locals to speak English, very few do here.
I had to try it, but I wouldn't recommend this resort for single travellers-it doesn't seem that free-spirited.
On the whole a good holiday which was spoilt by the increasingly mercenary Thomson Holidays.
