Great little hotel which is part of the Best Western brand . Location could not be better, right next to the Sea and a quiet little beach with a couple of beach bars near by . The Hotel itself is quite old but traditional with a very Spanish feel . Rooms on the side of the hotel we stayed (lobby side ) were small and basic but had everything you need to be honest! They were comfortable and clean with the welcome additional of a free mini bar on arrival ( no alcohol) but all free until its gone the you can restock for a fee. Pool area is small but the lovely Med is literally two mins walk from the room ! We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was fab ! Great choice of hot / cold food / salads meats / cheeses and even Cava if your feeling like an early tipple. Having breakfast by the sea every day really kick starts your day! We didn't eat at the hotel at night but it was always busy and the food looked good. Only a short stroll from the town which is really lovely to walk around and very typical old fashioned Spain with narrow streets and no McDonalds / Burger King / KFC which are so common these days ! Plenty of fresh seafood and local wine to enjoy and a beautiful castle to explore which is floodlit at night. The staff at the hotel were really friendly and could not do enough to help you and remembered your names which is a nice touch not so common these days .
If you do go to Tossa , please try to take time to Visit the local dogs home . There are around 160 strays there that are well looked after but dont get chance to go out for walks . They will allow you to walk dogs during the day from 1000 - 1400 and 1600 - 2000 and a small donation is appreciated but not expected . The poor dogs dont get out much and the ones we took were well behaved and really happy to have a bit of personal attention and a long walk in the nearby woods . The home is on the outskirts of Tossa near the campsite but walkable in about 15 mins . They also have a stand with some volunteers on in the Market every Thursday . Please go , you will enjoy and the dogs will love it .

All in all the hotel helped make for a very pleasant and enjoyable stay in Tossa .

I should have heeded the advice from the other reviewers who warned about how bad the Best Western Mar Menuda is. We had reservations for three nights, but the room was so wretched, we checked out after the first one -- and would have checked out without spending the night but torrential rain kept us in for the evening. The room was comparable to a dormitory room, with spare furnishings (a bed, a sofa, a desk and a rickety chair) and institutional decor. The bed was ancient and the sofa slip cover was dirty -- not stained, but covered in actual dirt. The room had a definite odor, and my husband could not stop coughing, which made us suspect mold. But the worst was the bathroom, which was infested with ANTS. I could not even bring myself to shower there, as the tub and towels were crawling with the insects. The final disappointment was that, even though the hotel was not sold out, they placed us in a room overlooking the parking lot. The cuisine at the restaurant was palatable, nothing special and far from the positive description by Frommer's. Also, the rooms did not include safes.

As other reviews have noted, Tossa de Mar is lovely -- an unspoiled beach town farther north on the coast from the touristy Lloret de Mar. Though the BW Mar Menuda has beach access, that is really all the hotel has to offer. There must be better establishment with better accommodations from which one can explore Tossa.

I stayed here last week with my girlfriend and group of friends. I have to say that I was extremely happy with this hotel. Reading the poor reviews on this site makes me think that the hotel was renovated somewhat recently.

I agree that the hotel is old and initial impressions aren't great but this hotel grew on me very quickly. The rooms were spotless, and the bathroom the same. We stayed in a room without a view but we weren't bothered at all - we didn't spend much time in the bedroom as there's so much to see and do outside.

This hotel is right smack on the beach, the smaller of the two main Tossa beaches and the prettier of the two. It's great to walk down a few steps from a hotel and to land straight onto a lovely beach. People talk negatively about the pool in the hotel. To be honest I didn't visit the pool once so can't comment but who would want to spend their time by the pool when there's a perfect beach a few steps away?!

As also mentioned by many others, the breakfast here is excellent. A huge choice of food from meats to cereals to eggs to full irish; and as many coffees as you want. We also had dinner here one night and it to was excellent.

Why am I not giving this 5 stars you may ask - mainly for the uninspiring decor in the hotel (not including the rooms, the rooms have been done up excellently).

Very comfortable hotel in superb location. It is advisable to pay a little more and get a room with a sea view. Breakfasts are incredibly good.
