Was reluctant to stay here due to modern nature of hotel, but few options available in Alcobaca, which has razed most of its historic buildings and is a typical Soviet style Portuguese town today, thanks to over-building from easy money. Nonethless, for a place to sleep, rather than stay, this is excellent. For 50 euro, we got a large room with California king size bed, good bathroom and view of the dirt pile behind hotel. Easy walk in evening to remnants of historic town across from monastery. Had a fine meal at restaurant recommended by desk clerk, although most places had "hard-sell" approach to getting tourists in. Few locals eating out made finding truly good place hard. Ample breakfast, included, in morning before going off to tour monastary. Late Portuguese check (noon) and location allowed us to eat, see monastery, then use bathroom, etc, before hitting road. parking garage was easy to use, not crowded. Free wireless in lounge. Appeared to have some sort of bar there, too.
