We stayed at Quinta de Coalhos for three nights in May, 2006. It is a small place, with only three rooms and a suite. Our room was very comfortable, with a door directly to the outside (in addition to the inside door on a hallway). Senhor José and Senhora Isabel were our hosts and they are most charming and helpful. The staff is excellent. The main building is about 100 years old and is quite lovely.
Breakfast is included - there is a reasonable variety of good food, plus the service is first-rate. There is at least one very good restaurant - O Cabaço - in nearby Pego, which is only about two km away. We ate there twice and enjoyed our meals very much both times. O Cabaço is reasonably priced and has a number of good wines from the area (Ribatejo DOC).
Senhor José is very knowledgeable about Portuguese food and wine and was always glad to make suggestions about restaurants and wine - all of which were excellent. They also have wireless internet available (free), although it only worked in the common areas.
Quinta de Coalhos made a great base for our modest exploration of this area and we would not hesitate to stay again.
