“Large, clean and warm rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2010

Location:
The hotel is right in front of the bus station and train station, and is a 5 minute walk to the centre of town (the main shopping and restaurant street).

Hotel Room:
I stayed in a room on the ground floor. It was quite spacious with a view of the side street. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that the bathroom floor tiles were heated. Of course this was the norm for northern european countries who experience cold winters. Temperatures during my stay were between -5 and 6 degC, and the hotel was kept at a very comfortable temperature. The bed was comfortable, and the doona which just fit the top of the bed was warm enough during the nights. The TV is CRT and clarity is ok.

Food:
I only ate breakfast at the hotel - there was the typical continental breakfast items, and loads of bread and delicious cheese. I recommend trying the brown cheese! Hot food was bacon and scrambled eggs. Note: If you arrive on a Sunday, the restaurant is closed (for dinner) and you will need to find a nearby restaurant for food.

Service:
The staff at the front desk were all extremely helpful and friendly. They gave good advice on where to eat, where to find a prepaid SIM and laptop charger, and what to do after-hours including tips on skiing.

Overall:
I will definitely consider staying here again, even though there is only a choice of 3 hotels (I know of) here in Kongsberg.

“Kongsberg meetings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2010

The bed spread was smaller than the beds but fairly comfortable after you learn how to stay under the covers. Didn't eat, drank little and the help was fabulous.

“Really nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2008

Great comfortable hotel. Nice and relaxed. Right across the street from the railway station

Huge room in the annexe at the back. Not much view, but a nice big bathroom, comfy double bed and sofa (which may have converted into another bed. Very minimalistic room , tastefully decorated. No clutter (you know, leaflets, brochures, and all that other nonsense you never look at in a hotel), just a simple concise folder with hotel and local information

Breakfast buffet .

Price was probably par for the course in Norway, but this included internet access.

Kongsberg is a pretty wee place. Nice walks along the river and plenty of restaurants around

Special thanks to Bridget (I think) who went out of her way to help with changed travel plans at short notice

“Functional, with friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2008

Very friendly staff at reception. Spacious clean room with a sofa bed for kids. Beds were comfortable.

Free parking outside the hotel.

Wireless access was free, which was a plus as there was not much on the TV.

Breakfast was fairly average - nothing to write home about.

Main complaints were the heat of the room (temperatures were close to 30deg the previous day) and the street noise early in the morning - even though the room was on a side road.

There was not a lot of choice in Kongsberg. The normal budget option of the youth hostel was only a liitle less expensive than the Best Western, and the rooms there were very basic.

“Not much choice in this small town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2007

Kongsberg is a very small, yet quite attractive town. As far as I know, this hotel is one of the two hotels in town, and the better one.
I had the top floor room with fire place, balcony and wooden floor.
Very spacious room. Furniture is a bit dated, but still ok. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast buffet was ok.
