“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Stayed here for 1 night as part of an independent touring holiday, Without a doubt it was friendliest welcome we had. The room was not ready so another one was immediately organised for us. The dining room staff were of varied nationalities and no where near as pleasant as the reception and bar staff. Buffet food was good. Lounge areas were comfortable but somewhat spoiled in the evening by the lone musician.Complimentary waffles (With jam and cream) and coffee/tea were available during the afternoon. The room was basic but adequate. Although the beds were small they were possibly the most comfortable we experienced in Norway. Neither tea/coffe making facilties or safe were provided in room. There was 1 armchair.

“Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

This hotel is situated ideally at the head of Hardanger Fjord, an hour from Eidfjord and a ferry ride from Utne and the Hardanger Folk Museum. The room was spacious and we had a balcony with a fjord view. We could open the door,so ventilation was OK, but the pillows were dreadful and the towels were thin. Dinner was good and breakfast was the usual Scandinavian. The bathroom was clean but there were no hooks to hang anything on(something very common everywhere we went in Norway,Sweden and Denmark). The reception staff were very helpful and cheerful. There were no dark, heavy curtains to block out that 3am sunrise or the 11pm sunset. For a best Western, it was not quite up to the mark, but for a hotel in country Norway,it was OK

“Time just stopped here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2005

This hotel is over looking the fjord so when you arrived at the entrance you are happy to have such a central location. However, once you step into the entrance hall, you just feel that time has somehow stopped here by the 70's. This is confirmed once you arrived in the room where the entire decoration dated back to that period, you just get the impression of getting back to school dorms again! The flooring was in bordeaux linoleum in the wash room with a old-pink curtain! Sofar, the room was of standard size and clean.

Breakfast is standard and front desk staff (probably the owner of the hotel) is kind of lukewarm. Most clients are on organised tours.

We would rather recommend the Quality Hotel Vøringfoss at Eidfjord about 20km further in the valley, much more modern and confortable, with a unique location (end of a fjord).
