Belgirate is a small village on the shores of Lago Maggiore and about 5 km south of Stresa. You get there by train from Milano (the hotel is abougt 10 minutes walk from the train station) or you can drive via the autostrade. The town itself is very beaitiful, but small and not a lot of action for those looking for night life, an abundance of restaurants etc.. There are train services to Stresa and beyond and the ferry calls in a couple of times a day if you wish to tour the lake's attractions (a must). If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing break/holiday, then Belgirate will suit you.The hotel is showing its age but none the less, it is quite comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful. We booked a room overlooking the lake and the views are superb. The tarrif included breakfast and dinner. Don't expect Michelin quality dining. The evening meals were quite good, but with a limited menu. The breakfasts were very average. Meals are served on an outdoor terrace overlooking the lake, which improves the dining experience no end. If you don't want to eat at the hotel, there are a couple of reasonable restaurants in the village. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay at Belgirate and the Hotel was acceptable.Three stars is a reasonable rating for this hotel.
