“Don't even think about it!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

My husband and I booked a sailing trip together with friends. Since I found out, that I am pregnant - shorty before our vacation, I wanted to make reservations in a hotel, since I could not be sure, if I would be able to stay on the boat with them for the entire time. I finally found "Le Palma" and was very glad to find a hotel room 2 days before our trip. I talked to an only French speaking gentleman, checked adress, dates of my stay,... Everything was set & I was looking forward to the trip. On August 20, I arrived at Nizza Airport and took the train down. Since I knew by that time, that I would arrive in the evening and not in the afternoon, I called the hotel and informed theam about the little change. An English woman said: "Don't worry Honey, as soon as you arrive before 11 o'clock at night, it's not a problem." I arrived at the hotel at 10 in the evening - and: There was no room for me & the English speaking woman who I talked to, a couple of hours before said, that since I did not know the name of the guy I talked to, that anybody could have answered the phone and that the phone number I showed her must belong to another hotel! She dialed the number and told me, that she would not be able to get thru. That sounded really fishy to me, I tried from my mobile phone & guess what happened! HER PHONE RANG!

“Avoid!”

We booked a last minute stay at this hotel. We live in France a couple of hours down the coast and wanted to escape a noisy local fiesta so we thought a couple of nights by the sea with the kids would be nice. I booked the family room priced at 165 euros per night by phone and gave my credit card details. The lady asked for these as it was late and she said if we didn't turn up, obviously she'd need to debit the card. This I totally understood. I told the woman that we would be there later that night. I rang two more times en route to confirm our arrival. When we arrived, tired with 2 young kids at 11pm, we were told that our room had been given to another family and that the only choice for us was to accept a more expensive room. We tried to argue that we booked the room at an agreed price, and that we had given our card details etc, and had rung several times but the lady, Maureen, insisted that she had no say in the matter as she just worked there. She pointed at a man and said he 'does the prices' and he won't negotiate. It transpires she is the owner along with him, her husband. We suggested that as the 'mistake' was theirs, they should honour the agreed price we had booked by phone but she said again that she didn't have the authority. (She's the owner!). She tried to give the impression that they were just employees who could not discuss financial matters. Then they insisted that we pay for the 2 nights in advance saying this was normal in the South, which is absolute rubbish - We were too tired to argue and so paid the higher price in advance and got on with the break. The rooms are average, the pool was fine. On the last day Maureen told us that as long as we were out of the room by 11am we could use the pool. Apparently Maureen's husband wasn't aware of this as he loudly barked at us across the pool in front of the other guests to clear off at 12.30.

The experience was very disappointing and frankly unpleasant. We would not recommend this hotel.

“Le Palma was a great find”

Wanted to review the Le Palma Hotel in Bormes, but there dosnt appear to be an entry for it. It was taken over 18 months ago by a Frenchman Patrick and his Welsh wife Maureen. We have been going to Le Mirage for 8 years now and have stayed in the apartments and the Hotel. We fancied a change because they no longer can offer interconnecting rooms in the hotel, and we have 2 children under 12. We tried it this summer. Le Palma has a lovely clean pool and as well as normal rooms, a couple of large family rooms. They gave us a very warm welcome, couldnt do enough for us and the breakfasts were fantastic. Freshly baked cakes and croisants by Patrick himself.
The Hotel is situated between Bormes and LeLavandou.
