“Do not choose this hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2009

The receptionist was not at all nice and client oriented. The price on the room was 20 EUR less than the one on the internet reservation. The noise during night and early morning made us to feel not so confortable. After all we were in holiday.....In the evening you cannot relax on the terrace because of the smell from the kitchen of the restaurants. The breakfast is unacceptable poor (instant cofee for 13 EUr????!!!!) and too expensive. The staff is not speaking English (but this is only a detail as we manage in French). I do not recommend this hotel as the services are really poor and the location is not an advantage, "au contraire"! Bormes les Mimosas is a nice romantic village and this is the only positive fact.

“lovely and charming”

Hostellerie du Cigalou offers pleasant accommodation in this charming hillside town. Our room-a Bucolique- was spacious, pretty, and with a large bathroom. A small terrace looked out to the sea and to the Ile Port-Cros. The swimming pool was small and not adequately looked-after- but fine for a quick cooling dip. Many of the rooms are over the hostellerie's restaurant. But most of the evening and early am noise came from traffic. The room was air conditioned; and closing the windows eliminated street noise. The desk service staff were usually over at the restaurant but seemed nice enough. The town itself is a special, lovely gem. A good restaurant choice would be Le Tonnelle, next to the inn.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2008

This is a very charming hotel situated in a beautiful old village. The rooms are a bit more stylish than your average French hotel and the bathroom was great. The person at reception didn't speak English (we managed with our limited French), however there are staff in the bar and restaurant who can speak some English and all the staf were very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again and the area has lots to offer but be prepared to pay higher prices, as you are on the Cote de Azur. The only downside of the hotel was the price for breakfast - 12 Euros each, we found cheaper options in the area.

“Stay at your own risk”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2008

Here is what I liked about the Hotel, the location is great (in the old village of Bormes-les-Mimosas) the rooms are pretty nice (our one room was quite big and I would say above average in decor).

That being said, everything else was pretty much a disaster. They never bothered to make up our room the next day because "they did not have another key" (I have heard excuses but that one takes the cake), they advertise and promote wifi internet but the receptionist told us "it was not working", I later was able to buy an access card by going into the attached restaurant and asking to buy a card. He went to the same receptionist, got a card, I paid for it and it worked fine. The next day a totally different receptionist told me that the "internet cards were sold out". Finally, i asked in the morning if breakfast was included, I was asked for my room numbers and after a lot of checking I was told, that yes, it was included. Needless to say, when i checked out I was charged an exorbitant amount (I think 12 euros each) for a really lousy breakfast served once again by staff who gave the distinct impression that you were disturbing them.

All in all, there are many great hotels in the area (see my other reviews) but stay away from this one.

“Warning: low security!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2008

Yes, we did enjoy our stay at Cigalou, in wonderful Bormes Les Mimosas. Even in the middle of August, at the very high season, when everything at the Cote d'Azur is overcrowded. Our room was nice, the bathroom was modern and spacious.
HOWEVER:
One afternoon, when returning to our room, we found that the doors to the balcony were wide open. And we were 100% shure that we had closed them. Probably the cleaning staff left the doors open.
Our complaint to the lady at the reception was simply ignored. She had some excuses instead of offering a solution and giving proper instructions to the cleaning staff. And she said that nobody could enter the room. Nobody? This reception lady probably had not read the instructions in the booklet that the hotel puts in every room, saying "Please keep your terrace door and windows closed when leaving your room. The management will not be responsable for items left in the room."
To make things worse, only two days later, one afternoon, when returning to our room, yes indeed, we found the terrace doors wide open again! OOPS! When we complained to the same lady at the reception, she gave the same reaction. Don't worry, nobody can enter the room.
So be aware if you want to come to this hotel. Security of your stuff is just a farce!
