“Good hotel to visit the Elsass”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2010

This is just an ok hotel to visit the surroundings of Colmar and the hills up west. We had a lot of snow fun in December in the mountains (half an hour ride). The apartment rooms are ok and were clean, but rather basically equipped. The food served in the restaurant is ok, but the staff kept on having problems in organizing things in order to serve everyone's food in time. I'd book this hotel rooms only. The swimming pool is a nice and well kept extra.

“Better than OK - for what we paid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2009

Have you read the review by Paulreiki ? Well, I was in the same group and want to give my views which are different from his. Paulreiki has some financial responsibilities for our group and so he knows that we stayed in this hotel for just one reason: it was inexpensive. One's comments, I feel, should not ignore what one paid. And there's a great difference between staying with a large group and staying as a couple. I think that we got more than we paid for. Paul just had bad luck with his room. The hotel has 151 rooms and if one - lowly paid - chambermaid makes a mistake, one should not damn the whole hotel. Did Paul never make just one mistake in his career ? My room was very acceptable - for what we paid. My lights worked perfectly and my key-card never failed. My room was close to the pool but I never smelled any chlorine. Was Paul looking for things to complain about ? Several of our group praised their rooms. One astute gentleman, at dinner the first evening, said: I've got a splendid room; I've just been sitting on my balcony, admiring the Vosges. As for the staff, did Paul ever speak kindly to any of them ? I spoke (in French) to one young waiter. He told me his name and that he came from Casablanca. We chatted a little about that. Ever after, whenever this young man saw me, he smiled and asked if he could help. He felt, I believe, that I'd treated him as a person and not a servant. On my return to England, I realised that I'd left behind a number of small - but valuable - items. I emailed the hotel and got a reply within hours. They had found my things and would send them on. They did this very promptly. How very kind.

“The WORST 'Best' Western hotel we've ever stayed in!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

We stayed in this hotel with 41 others of our party for three nights - 19th, 20th and 21st October 2009. Firstly, there were hairs left in the wash basin when we arrived. The main up-lighter of the room was not working - when one of the two bedside lights failed I had to remove the bulb, go to reception and ask for two replacements - the receptionist could only find one bulb which I had to replace myself! When we requested the complimentary tea and coffee this arrived the following day and the used cups were not washed or replaced by the room maid. The reception does not sell stamps and tells you to go to the supermarket down the road. The electronic key-cards kept failing and having to be re-programmed by reception. The hotel appeared to be understaffed in that when meals were being served the bar closed and when two other coach parties arrived, even though two extra staff appeared, the service was abysmal. The additional staff were more pleasant and helpful than the others although it appeared that they were under great strain. The receptionist short changed me when I paid my drinks bill - the bar (when it was manned) seemed incapable of taking cash for the drinks and had only a very small cash tin as a till. There was a terrible smell of chlorine from the pool on the ground floor. Bollwiller is right out in the sticks and as we were visiting Strasbourg had to face an hour's trip each way.

“Food terrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2009

The room is okay. Slightly outdated but acceptable. The exterior of the building needed some maintenance.

This hotel is quite large, located near a major highway and seems to cater to tour groups on buses.

But the really bad part was breakfast.
The bread was so soggy that it could not be cut. The croissants were inedible. The orange juice seemed watered down. The coffee was tasteless and seemed to be instant.

My impression was that everything seemed to be bought with price as the sole criterion.

I complained to the management and they promptly removed the charge for breakfast from our bill, but they acknowledged that this was a problem they knew about. C'mon, fix it. How many bakeries can supply good bread so you don't have to buy from the worst one? Thousands.

There are much better choices in this area?

“tranquil hotel nearby the Alsace wine-route”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2008

we stayed in this hotel because of the nearby wine-route. And because of the cheap rates for a junior suite with a queen size bed that the hotel offered via internet.

The room was very pleasant, spacious, with a big bathroom and huge queen size bed indeed. Very clean and well maintained. A mini bar would have been a plus. And the TV's were working but not connected?

The hotel complex is located in a quiet area amidst fields of corn and our room overlooked these and the nearby farms. Very quiet and peaceful. I also liked the fact that the hotel has a big parking, free of use. We avoided the breakfast buffet as this was very basic and expensive.

Allthough this is basically a hotel that is catering for families with children and guests staying for longer periods in the appartment -complex we enjoyed our stay for two nights. The pool is a main attraction but alas, mainly for kids. That was our only disappointment.

  • Liked — tranquil location, free parking, spacious room, spacious bathroom, clean, good price-value
  • Disliked — swimming pool, restaurant, families with children
