“Lucky stay? Ask for room 210”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2010

After reading some of the other reviews (on free hotel WiFi) I'm convinced we've had a lucky visit to the hotel.

We arrived having booked with a major travel website to be told that we had no booking. I was able to produce the confirmation email (thank goodness) and they took a photocopy and offered us a choice of rooms - we took room 210 with its 2 single beds, large window balcony with river views and a small ensuite with shower over bath. My only criticism is that the beds could have been firmer. We also saw 215 which had a double bed and seemed ok, just smaller and nothing resembling the river view that we paid for.

Breakfast perfectly nice with the normal European selection of croissants, bread with cheese and meats as well as some hot items.

Plenty of free parking outside the hotel and a pretty central location, sat just under the castle.

Recommended for room 210!

“Where's my Best Western?!?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

The hotel is situated in a comfortable position and has a very useful parking in front of it.
Anything else i could say about "Best Western La Porte De France" is rubbish.
We reserved a room on BOOKING.COM and were placed right under the roof, paying €80/night to sleep in one of the worst "hotel rooms" i've ever seen.
The tropical temperature, though it was a cold August outside, was the last problem. The room was incredibly tiny (look at the pictures) and i always had to mind my head while "moving around". Forniture ridiculous and not useful at all (you can't use chairs or desk: there is no room to sit down!). You can't pee like a man is supposed to in the bathroom: there isn't enough space to stand up.
I can't say the room was clean at all. We found hair and holes on pillows and sheets, which is always such a pleasure! Moreover, it seems they're growing spiders up there...very big spiders everywhere.
They say you can have free wi-fi in the structure, no need to say i didn't find any line on that attic.
We had dinner in the restaurant, and my girlfriend had an aunt in her salad. I swear.
The best happened the day after when we went downstairs to have breakfast: after being asked our room number, we were not allowed to have breakfast with the other "normal" hotel guests, but were sent, in front of everybody, to the coffee room with different (lame) pottery and cuttleries, which i asked to change for being incredibly old and dirty. It was only 9 o'clock, but just enough to spoil the whole morning.
Nobody speaks english of course, we are too close to France: they only speak French.
Can't say anything about the other floors' rooms, but my experience with this hotel was very upsetting: wouldn't advice it to anyone.

“Most cramped room ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2009

I've stayed at dozens of hotels worldwide, never have I been in such a small room/closet. Simply tiny, I could hardly move in it, had to pay attention not to bump my head. Obviously no closet in the room as there wasn't any place. I think the pictures speak for itself. Towels nor soap were added to the bathroom after the first night.

Restaurant was closed the two days I was there. The second day I skipped breakfast. The first morning I got a boiled egg, some jam, a small cup of choco paste and a few hard sandwiches (not even one slice of cheese or ham). Seriously, this was the poorest breakfast I've ever had in a hotel. The coffee was instant (yuk!), I still tasted it three hours later.

At noon I had a 'vol au vent' with french fries in their brasserie, the vol au vent (chicken) wasn't even properly warmed up. If you go out in the evening after 6 or 7pm don't forget the code to get in or you'll have to sleep on the street (no staff later than 7pm). This hotel gets a 4 star rating on some sites, that just makes me laugh. This is de facto a 2 star property.

“A step back into the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2009

Bouillon is a lovely little holiday town built along the banks of the river and this hotel appears to have been there for many years and the style of decor reflected this. Our room was small, adequate and clean. However the toilet was positioned in such a way that it had to be used sideways! Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, but choice at breakfast was somewhat limited. The last surprise came at checkout when I was given a handwritten bill and receipt.

“The worst owner ever, cheat withe additions”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2009

It's definitly not up to Best western standards.
It's true that some rooms are grat, but with the standart reservation, you only get a tiny room, and you have to pay a huge supplement to go in a normal one. The service was quite good, but the price the resaurant is very expensive. My bill was wrongfully calculate, at the end of my stay? I had to pay 20 euro more than forseen, with no particular reason. (I think that the boss just cheat with the bills in order to get more money. If you ant to have a nice stay in beautifull Boullon, CHOOSE AN OTHER HOTEL.

  • Liked — The staff, some rooms, if you are lucky, are great
  • Disliked — The owner, Bacardi-coke(not in bottle)=10 Eur,scam with Bill
