We stayed in the small town of Kufstein on our way back from the Alps (Gerlos) to take a plane in Munich. We loved the little town which is good for cycling and walks along the river; we found it quiet and friendly and very well served by trains.
Our stay at the Auracher Löchl was certainly a high point in the trip. It is very well located, just across from the railway station, offering nice views towards the river, agreeable terraces and an extremely good restaurant. In terms of decor, this is a case where what you see (in photos) is what you get - added by the local flavours and scents.
We will cetainly go back when our journeys take us that way.

I stayed recently (27.07 – 01.08.2011) at the Auracher Genusshotel Löchl, in Kufstein, Austria, and no doubt if one is looking for a typical Austrian accommodation with historical significance, this is indeed the right place to stay. It is located in the heart of the old town of Kufstein, by the river Inn with the fortress towering above it. The street where it is located is probably the busiest and most visited by tourists, who search for anything ranging from typical souvenirs to historical wine cellars and restaurants. At night the street can be very loud, which was unfortunately the case, as my room faced the Romerhofgasse, a very short lane designed mostly for pedestrians and visitors. Once in a while you will see a car struggling to get by, as the parking lot is situated at the very end of it.
As a solo traveller I occupied a single room, which was unusually small and narrow for European standards. If you are big, you will probably have problems sleeping in the bed and moving around. The table and chair are uncomfortable, mostly if one has to use a laptop. The hotel provides a free wireless internet hotspot, although the network signal is weak and more often than not a message with “unavailable connection” will pop up. The staff are friendly and breakfast included in the price of the hotel is good.
Questionable value for money.

We stayed a week for sightseeing and relaxing in this on of the nicest hotels i Bavaria. We have never had such good dinners in top class for a whole week. Order half board. Best value for money.

My 20 year-old daughter neede to get from Zurich to Vienna and didn't want to spend a full day on a train so we picked Kufstein and the Alstodthotel Auracher Lochl. What a great surprise. Great staff from reception to the restaurants, a free welcome glass of wine and great food. The best schnitzel ever! The patio is right on the river with the Tyrolean mountains quite close. The front entrance is on an incredibly quaint Austrian street. The Kufstein castle is phenomenal and a 3 minute walk to the lift. Besides Zurich and Vienna we visited Budapeas, Prague and Paris and enjoyed Kufstein equally as well. If you get the chance you must go!
