“Friendly, clean, comfortable, relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

The proprietors are very nice and willing to help with anything and everything. The rooms are clean, quiet, cozy and give you the true feeling/experience of an old Austrian family farm house. The sauna and solarium are wonderful amenities for relaxation after a long day of skiing or hiking and the exercise equipment and ping-pong table provide a nice way to unwind and have fun. The breakfast is very hearty and offers a great variety of traditional Austrian foods such as fresh baked breads, yogurt, muesli, meats and cheeses. A great place to stay if you are looking to be close to Innsbruck and skiing and/or hiking but don't want to pay for a pricy hotel downtown. There is a bus stop within walking distance to the Inn and the bus runs every 15-30 min on the dot for very little money.

“Lovely Traditional & Comfortable Hotel !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2010

When we arrived at this hotel for our short ski trip we loved it, its so pretty and traditional. The rooms are a nice size, comfortable beds with pillows you'll want to take home, the bathroom is also nice with a big deep bath after a hard days skiing.
We stayed in room 16 and the views were amazing, the whole of Igls is surrounded by snowy mountains so i dont think it matters what room you stay in you'll always have a nice view.
The Hofbaur family are very friendly and hugely accommodating, my partner and i actually contracted bad food poisoning from the Panorama restaurant in the mountain and the family let us have late check-out as we were so ill the day we left. Even the cleaners were really friendly!
The buffet breakfast is 7euro per person and they lay on so much, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, toast, croissant, mixture of cereals, hot & cold drinks etc

The hotel does have a quiet bar but they dont often open it, but if you want a night-cap just walk into the bar and they will turn the lights on.
The hotel is a short walk to the village centre, where you'll find a Spar, few other hotels in which you can use the restaurants and bars, there is a nice coffee house that sell nice cakes, a bar that we actually didnt like as it was too smoky! You'll also find a friendly ski school, ski hire shops, ski clothing shop, a pretty little church and a wicked Italian restaurant!
I would recommend the mountain cable car ride just for the views but the Panorama restaurant is nothing special and made us very ill, in fact after 1 week ive only just recovered!
The skiing is good in Igls, we were beginners and didnt enjoy it as much as we should have but i can imagine skiing from the top of the mountain down is good!
The nightlife is pretty quiet and i can imagine may be a little boring for young groups, but Innsbruck is close and i know they have a massive nightclub and a casino in town!

The village of Igls is only a 20euro taxi ride from Innsbruck airport, you can easily grab a taxi outside.

Please ask any questions if you need to know anything else.

“One of the best holidays we ever had - the Tirol region is simply BEAUTIFUL in summer!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2009

Based on the excellent reviews on tripadvisor, we booked a double room in this hotel for 4 nights in Sept '09 and we were decently happy with our experience.

This hotel is in a village called Igls and not proper Innsbruck. Igls is about 15 mins by bus from Innsbruck centre and is a nice beautiful village. I would strongly recommend staying in Igls as compared to Innsbruck where you will find traffic, crowd, noise, etc. (the usual things that are there in any city). The bus frequency is also very good with one bus (Bus J) every 15 mins. You can catch the bus J from Landesmuseum in central Innsbruck. Landesmuseum is walking distance from the railway station and if you flying to the airport, bus F will take you to Landesmuseum. You need to get down at Igls Post bus-stop for this hotel.

Coming to the hotel now, the things we were happy about:
- We were upgraded to an apartment for free (which stood us in good stead, explained later below)
- Owner Mr. Hafbauer was very helpful
- The hotel is located in a beautiful natural setting with excellent views from the bedroom (apt 11)
- There is close proximity to the bus stop
- The hotel is just a 5 min walk from the centre of the village where you will find various restaurants, shops, pharmacy, etc.
- The walk along the road (just outside the hotel) leading away from the centre gives a very serene feeling in the beautiful countryside. You will also find very few people along this path.

Things which left a bit to be desired:
- There wasn't a double bed in the bedroom but rather two twin beds joined together. The mattress wasn't of good quality and my wife who has backache problems could not sleep comfortably. She then had to sleep on the sofa (upgrade to apartment came handy here too).
- The breakfast does not have many items which one finds typically in UK such as baked beans, hash browns, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, etc but then the German breakfast may have less variety. In any case, the apartment's kitchen proved quite useful here and we could cook our own breakfast.

Besides rating the hotel, let me mention a few things in general about Innsbruck which might be useful for people who are thinking of visting in the summer.

Guided mountain walks are one of the best things about Innsbruck. Everyday, there is some interesting long walk starting from different places which is run by experienced guides from Innsbruck for free. It usually starts at 9 and goes on till the afternoon with lunch at one of the famed huts of the Tirol region. There is a booklet called "Summer Activities" (can be found in any hotel) which lists all these walks.

If you are around Innsbruck for a few days, do go to Nordkette mountain peak and Patscher Kofel mountain peak. They are very beautiful indeed. It turns out to be quite cheap to tour Innsbruck with the Innsbruck card especially if you are there for more than 1 day. More info can be found at http://www.[--].html.

Our inital thought was to rent a car but Innsbruck has such excellent public transport facilities which run dot on time, that we never felt the need for a car.

For dinner, I would strongly recommend a restaurant in the centre of Igls called Pizzeria Venezia especially if you are vegetarians like we were. There is another one, Ägidihof which is supposed to be good but we did not find much of options there for us. In fact, one day when we did go there, we had to go to Venezia after that since we were still hungry.

To correct what one of the earlier reviews has written, there is wireless Internet facility in the hotel though I can't comment about the strength since I didn't use it.

If you happen to be coming from Germany or going to Germany from Innsbruck and want to do the bookings in English (or for that matter in any other major language), the official site to go to is http://www.[--].shtml. It even delivers tickets in other countries. This is much better than the www.[--].co.uk site which charges exorbitantly and has much lesser options than the offcial German site.

All in all, a fantastic place to go to in summer.

“The ideal start and finish to our holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2009

We booked this hotel on the recommendations of Trip Advisor members and would certainly support them. We found Igls village an ideal place to start and finish our Austrian holiday. It is about 20 minutes drive from Innsbruck airport. The Sonnenhof is located down a quiet lane but only 5-10 minutes walk from the bustling ski village. The owner of the hotel is very friendly, speaks reasonable English and gives good advice. Our room was comfortable and spotless. There were excellent views from the balcony of the mountains and countryside. There was a TV in the room. By way of a change from the norm, there was a dressing room with cupboards, shelves, mirror, hooks for coats and clothes rail rather than a wardrobe. I don't think there was internet facilities but there were plenty of brochures and maps available. The excellent breakfast was buffet style although nobody was on hand to serve coffee etc, which is usual. Having said that, the owner was always nearby. The breakfast room was light with attractive wooden decor. There is a bar in the adjoining room which is possibly used for guests athough this was not pointed out to us. As a result of our first night stay here, we booked our last night as well. We would recommend that you take a trip on the Cable car up the Patscherkofel to savour the view of the mountains, also visit the village coffee shop where there is an array of cakes to die for.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2009

This was my first trip for snow skiing in Austria and I found this hotel via a web site. I had an absolutely great experience with this hotel.

The rates were absolutely fair and the owner was very helpful with information and directions. The owner also speaks English.

I stayed in one of the "apartment type" two room accomadations. The rooms were very clean and contained refrigerator and stove. Perfect for a ski vacation where you don't always want to go out and eat.

The location is very close to the center of this small town but just far enough away for it to be oerfectly quiet. It is about a 5 minute walk to the main grocery store and center of town.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel if staying in the Ski resort of Igls.
