“One of the best holidays we ever had - the Tirol region is simply BEAUTIFUL in summer!”
Based on the excellent reviews on tripadvisor, we booked a double room in this hotel for 4 nights in Sept '09 and we were decently happy with our experience.
This hotel is in a village called Igls and not proper Innsbruck. Igls is about 15 mins by bus from Innsbruck centre and is a nice beautiful village. I would strongly recommend staying in Igls as compared to Innsbruck where you will find traffic, crowd, noise, etc. (the usual things that are there in any city). The bus frequency is also very good with one bus (Bus J) every 15 mins. You can catch the bus J from Landesmuseum in central Innsbruck. Landesmuseum is walking distance from the railway station and if you flying to the airport, bus F will take you to Landesmuseum. You need to get down at Igls Post bus-stop for this hotel.
Coming to the hotel now, the things we were happy about:
- We were upgraded to an apartment for free (which stood us in good stead, explained later below)
- Owner Mr. Hafbauer was very helpful
- The hotel is located in a beautiful natural setting with excellent views from the bedroom (apt 11)
- There is close proximity to the bus stop
- The hotel is just a 5 min walk from the centre of the village where you will find various restaurants, shops, pharmacy, etc.
- The walk along the road (just outside the hotel) leading away from the centre gives a very serene feeling in the beautiful countryside. You will also find very few people along this path.
Things which left a bit to be desired:
- There wasn't a double bed in the bedroom but rather two twin beds joined together. The mattress wasn't of good quality and my wife who has backache problems could not sleep comfortably. She then had to sleep on the sofa (upgrade to apartment came handy here too).
- The breakfast does not have many items which one finds typically in UK such as baked beans, hash browns, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, etc but then the German breakfast may have less variety. In any case, the apartment's kitchen proved quite useful here and we could cook our own breakfast.
Besides rating the hotel, let me mention a few things in general about Innsbruck which might be useful for people who are thinking of visting in the summer.
Guided mountain walks are one of the best things about Innsbruck. Everyday, there is some interesting long walk starting from different places which is run by experienced guides from Innsbruck for free. It usually starts at 9 and goes on till the afternoon with lunch at one of the famed huts of the Tirol region. There is a booklet called "Summer Activities" (can be found in any hotel) which lists all these walks.
If you are around Innsbruck for a few days, do go to Nordkette mountain peak and Patscher Kofel mountain peak. They are very beautiful indeed. It turns out to be quite cheap to tour Innsbruck with the Innsbruck card especially if you are there for more than 1 day. More info can be found at http://www.[--].html.
Our inital thought was to rent a car but Innsbruck has such excellent public transport facilities which run dot on time, that we never felt the need for a car.
For dinner, I would strongly recommend a restaurant in the centre of Igls called Pizzeria Venezia especially if you are vegetarians like we were. There is another one, Ägidihof which is supposed to be good but we did not find much of options there for us. In fact, one day when we did go there, we had to go to Venezia after that since we were still hungry.
To correct what one of the earlier reviews has written, there is wireless Internet facility in the hotel though I can't comment about the strength since I didn't use it.
If you happen to be coming from Germany or going to Germany from Innsbruck and want to do the bookings in English (or for that matter in any other major language), the official site to go to is http://www.[--].shtml. It even delivers tickets in other countries. This is much better than the www.[--].co.uk site which charges exorbitantly and has much lesser options than the offcial German site.
All in all, a fantastic place to go to in summer.
