“Good food, excellent value.”

We stayed at the Gruberhof in July 2011. We had a spacious room in the newer part of the hotel, overlooking the small lake. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, though there was no hot food except for boiled eggs. The evening meals turned out to be far better than anticipated. Although we were never given a choice, or even an inkling of what was on the menu, every meal was different, well cooked, plentiful and delicious.
Our room was cleaned every day and all the towels changed. We asked for extra pillows and they arrived in minutes. All the staff were good humoured, efficient and polite.
The hotel is perched above the village, but it only took us 10 minutes to walk up from the centre of Igls, via the path through the fields and I'm 72!
I would certainly book again, via Inghams. The holiday was excellent value but people shouldn't expect 5 star accommodation for 2 star prices.

“Great value for money”

Altough it was the so called "low season" in mid March (12-19), we came to ski in the Patscherkofel center. It would have been much better a month before as there is a blue piste right to the hotel main entrance. However, the lower cable cabin station is just some 60 meters away from the hotel. Also the training slope which is close to the hotel was closed then. So if you plan you skiing holiday, have this on mind as the webcam shows you the upper part ;-) And get ready for the traffic jams on A12 highway (and around Munich/München if you come from north on Saturdays.

Like other reviewers wrote - do not expect a luxury hotel. We stayed in the new wing and I cannot complain, the rooms were just fine - cozy, clean, and spacious. The only thing I missed was a free wi-fi but you don't often have it even in more expensive hotels.

The dinners were great, breakfast was a traditional buffet with the same stuff every day which was a bit boring after a week but that's normal. Anyway, our kids could experiment with different types of jams, honey etc. at least :-)

I can recommend a day-trip to Innsbruck. We took a tram the way there and a bus the way back. And buy a daily ticket as Igls is a part of public transport system of Innsbruck.

The staff were great and helpful although not all the waitresses spoke English. But you learn the few German words and phrases fast.

“A pleasant surprise -”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2011

We stayed with friends in adjoining rooms - first floor in the new block. Very clean and spacious with a sitting area separated from the bed by a low level wooden partition - typically Austrian furniture - and a more than adequate bath/shower room (loads of hot water!) and the WC in a separate room.
On the down side - the matress had seen better days and was quite soft and you could feal the springs.
The view was fantastic - overlooking the ski run with the mountains in the background and it was so quiet that you could happily sleep with the windows open.
Please note that you need 20euro deposit for the remote control if you wish to watch the TV - but only one English speaking chanel is available.
Brakfast was adequate - a reasonable selection of rolls, meats and cheeses etc - although only 2 breakfast cerials - (a variation would have been appreciated).
Evening meals were adequate with a very good salad buffet available.
The Carvery on Thursday was excellent with 6 different meats to choose from and so many different sausages!!!!! - and to seranade us Peter got out his piano accordian!
The Bar prices were very reasonable (3euro for a large beer) and drinks could be ordered at table or over the bar and brought to you.
As noted in some reviews, the bar did get a bit smokey during the evening but a non smoking conservatory was available next to it with excellent views over the garden and the mountains beyond.
Did not try the Sauna - advised that it was custom to "wear nothing but a smile" :-)
For a 2* Hotel we had no complaint - the staff were helpful and efficient and we definately would return again.
Set just out of town, it is a pleasant uphill walk through the snow to the Gruberhof (but if you have a walking impediment, the incline could be a bit difficult in part).
We went with Inghams and found their rep. Gabriella most helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the new wing at the front

“Great location, great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

I just returned from a stay at the gruberhof and it was a very homely hotel the staff were all friendly and it was a great atmosphere all the guests got on well, the rooms were clean with plenty of storage I was in the new wing so I can't comment on the old wing. The food was good and traditional there was plenty of it so you won't go hungry. The skiing was good however word of warning the family blue run was more like a red in places rumours were around that it was downgraded from a red to get more skiers to the resort. My only issue is the ski bus it is not frequent enough the bus to the Olympia express was only once every 25 mins. Would recommend this hotel if you just want somewhere basic with good food. The rep at the hotel gabriella was fantastic nothing was too much trouble
