My wife and I have just returned (last full week in Aug.) from a superb holiday staying in this hotel. We landed at Innsbruick in glorious sunshine (90 odd degrees) and it remained so until the day we left.
A 20 minute trip by bus took us to the hotel.
The checking in procedure was extremely efficient and all the reception staff were extremely courteous and helpful.
We were allocated Room 122 which was what the Austrians call a Komfort room. An extremely large room with sitting area, large bed (two decent sized twins pulled together), good sized bathroom with shower over bath, and a balcony which got the afternoon sun.
From the minute we entered the Dining Room until the day we left the waiting staff were great, always smiling and cheerful. The dinners were excellent, varied and always a good choice. Generally 5 courses but occassionally a buffet with local dishes.
Avoid the recommended wines (always Austrian) which appear on the menu (very expensive) and look at the wine list. We settled for carafes of French wine each night.
There is not much to say about the breakfast. Fruit juices, good choice of cereals, bread and rolls, hams, cheeses and whatever you want done with eggs !! Also sparkling wine if you want.
Use the Tourist Board (100 yards from hotel entrance) for all the local information.
Plenty of walks laid out in the beautiful countryside that surrounds Igls (pronounced Eagles). The Hotel will provide a packed lunch for you if required (ham roll, cheese roll, piece of fruit, bar of chocolate and bottle of water).
Innsbruck ( a scenic 25 mins by tram or a hectic 15 mins by bus) is well worth a visit, as is the top of the Olympic ski jump.
A really great hotel in a superb location.

great hotel facilities and rooms brilliant . food exellent . I am a coeliac and they really pulled all the stops out, every evening I was given the menu the food I couldn't eat was highlighted, twice they made me alternative food as both the menu's had gluten in. I was made a pack up everyday as we were out walking, the bread was no where near as what I get over here, but at least they tried. Well done

“A very nice hotel”

I just read a write up of the Sporthotel in Igls that said it was terrible. They had booked four nights and only stayed one. They went and rented a suite in the Grand Hotel Europa in Innsbruck. WELL, the Grand hotel is indeed grand and very expensive. The Sporthotel is mainly for sport people, skiing mostly, and is no where near as expensive as the Grand Hotel. There is nothing wrong with the Sporthotel at all. I suspect these people were just plain rude and probably complain just to make themselves look pompous. Do not pay attention to the "terrible" write up. Go there and you will really like it. I have been there twice and had no problems at all.

“A lovely place to stay”

We stayed here for one week on package with Inghams via Travelzoo. We were told by the rep. that our room would not be ready because we had an early flight. On arrival we were told at reception itt would be about one hour,so we sat on the terrace and had a drink while we took in the views. After an hour we were told our room was ready but when we checked it was not.I then complained and asked for a big room that was ready and this was found immediately. This was our only problem the whole week. The staff were veryas we were friendly and obliging, the food was very good and plentiful and our room comfortable. We didnt use the other hotel facilities as we were too busy walking. There are many walking trails from the hotel and the cable car is close at hand with higher level walks

Room Tip: The rooms at the side of the hotel may be quietter

“Nice hotel for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

Just finished up a couple day stay at the Sportshotel Igls. Getting there from the train station was a quick taxi away of less than 15Euros. The hotel was a little smaller than appeared in the picture, and the rooms were of adequate size. My room had a nice patio, overlooking the plaza, a few small chairs, large size bed, and flat screen TV. Breakfast was free and they had a decent selection of meats, cheeses, and breads (considering it was free). For those of you looking to connect to mobile devices wirelessly, there is a password available, but connection speeds are very limited and prone to dropping. In the basement, there is a small gym, with a number of bow flex type machines. Wasn't the best or worst that I have seen in regards to gyms. The spa area looked comfy, with an indoor pool, plenty of area to lay out and rest, and a number of spa beds and tables. The staff was helpful when engaged (I asked about buses into the city center, but otherwise kept to themselves and not overtly chatty). The selling point of the hotel is it's value and location. It is situated in an ideal place, walking distance of some beautiful parks and trails, and some fabulous restaurants near it. Plus, taking a bus into the city center to do some shopping and overlook Olympic village was relatively easy.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel, especially to those Americans such as I, traveling to Innsbruck. You may find better, but for it's price, location, English speaking staff, and facilities, you can stay here and be assured of a pleasurable experience.

Room Tip: Confirm at the desk your rate.
