“Could have been perfect”

My Fiancee and I stayed at the Redcastle 12-14th Feb (Valentines weekend). The positives were as follows:- Food excellent, friendly staff, good facilities such as pool etc and room size good.
Two things however spoilt our stay the first being that it was Valentines weekend we were on a break from the kids however were given an adjoining room with a family with small children who screamed, cried and slammed doors for most of our stay and this at 7.30am!! The second thing was we had 2 single beds pushed together!! We were informed by a member of bar staff that the beds should have been "zipped" together however they were not so as you can imagine wasnt a pleasant experience not even a double duvet cover but 2 singles!!. I would like to suggest that the reservations team be a bit more aware when allocating rooms and appreciate that couples on a romantic break away from their own kids do not want to be tortured with other peoples, Only for those issues this would have been a 5 star review so its a bit of a shame

Room Tip: if travelling child free request rooms away from other children

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking time to write a review on your recent stay with us. I am delighted to read such positive comments regarding our facilities the food and also the staff. We work very hard to ensure that all our guests are given a warm welcome and treated to top class service. I apologise that your stay was disturbed by noise and that the bedroom was not as it should have been. I understand your frustration and that it may have diminished your overall experience. I assure you that we do carefully look at our room allocations and the room set up and I will certainly bring this matter to the attention of our Reservations Manager. If you wish to discuss this further please do contact us on feedback@redcastlehotel.com

“lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We had a lovely stay at the Redcastle we have not been there for about 10 years it has had a great face lift, The staff were lovely and the food was fantastic. We had a room with a sea view and this made it very enjoyable. When we arrive they had left a plate with four chocolates on it with 'welcome back' written i chocolate a lovely touch.

Room Tip: Would recommend room 204 or similar room with sea view.

“Very poor room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed here and had booked a room with a sea view at extra cost per night, was put into a very small room in what appeared to be the old part of the hotel over the kitchen, the room was small, shabby and the noise from the fans at the kitchen loud, was very disappointed as had stayed here previously and been in a much nicer room overlooking the river this time simply overlooking a mudflap. Cant fault the meals tho breakfast and evening meals were lovely, but defintely put me of returning. I did ask about moving room but was told there was a wedding on and it wasnt an option

Room Tip: Do not take a room in the old part of the hotel, well certainly not the one i was allocated

Dear Guest
Thank you for review. We do appreciate all feedback. I note from your review that you stayed in March 2011. The Hotel does not have an older section as the entire Hotel was refurbished at the same time 6 years ago. However some bedrooms and the Hotel itself has undergone a recent refurbishment as we did recognise that some areas needed attention. I am delighted to read that you enjoyed your meals and I hope you will consider returning to the Hotel again and if you wanted to discuss any of your issues further we would be delighted to do so feedback@redcastlehotel.com

“Redcastle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

A very comfortable hotel. Excellent breakfast and "fine dining" in the restaurant although a little pricey if you have children. Lovely swimming pool overlooking Lough Foyle. Rooms, large, warm, relaxing and accommodating with tea/coffee, ironing facilities, hairdryer, etc.
Staff friendly and efficient. Would definitely stay their again, perhaps in the summer.

Room Tip: I always prefer a seaview.

Thank you for your comments. I was delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you also for your comments regarding our food, we have recently launched our new Edge Restaurant Menu and it is proving to be very popular. We do offer a great selection of dishes also on our bar menu and we have recently launched our extensive pizza menu and our exciting ‘Superheroes Menu’ for children with prices starting at just €5.95. I hope that you will get a chance to sample all of these in the coming months and we do have great family offers coming up soon!

“Very disappointed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My wife and i had been looking forward to a two night stay at this hotel for many weeks but have never been as disappointed by a hotel. First disappointment was check in, we arrived at hotel at around 1330 but our room wasnt ready until 1630. The room itself was terrible, one of the doors on the wardrobe was hanging off, the bathroom was shabby to say the least and the TV was tiny. Our view was wonderful however, but this did not compensate for our room. In hindsight one should have complained but unfortunately it is not my nature (will do in future). My wife and i accepted this as generally the room was quiet, however during the second day of our stay, guests must have checked into the room above us and to say you could hear every step is an understatement, at times we thought the roof was caving in.

The guests must have left the room and my wife and i did get an afternoon nap and managed to get ready to go out that evening. At 0130 we awoke from smeone getting up in the room upstairs as they had young children staying with them, it took my wife nearly an hour to get back to sleep, then at 0700 we awoke to the noise of childrens steps and what seemed like a herd of elephants when the parents walked on the noisy creeky floors. So much for a sleep-in and a few nights away from the kids.

I absolutely do not blame the people above us, i have no issue with children either, i have two young children and travel with them on many occassions but a 4 star hotel should have better facilities than this, even a basic two star hotel has better noise insulation than what my wife and i experienced in ths room on the first floor, i did mention this at checkout and was told that i should have said the day before but in all honesty i do not feel that, that is good enough, i am a frequent visitor to Innishowen and have stayed in 3 and 4 star hotels, guest houses and rented houses in the area and this is the first time i have been dissapointed by a stay in my favourite penninsula in Donegal.

Also i did not think the pool was great, the water temperature was fine for swimming but all the hydro jet facilities were in the pool and you would get cold when sitting or lying in them for any period of time.

On the plus side i must compliment the staff, they were very pleasant and the breakfast i believe was pretty good, also the evening meal in the restaurant was very good, but unfortunately i cannot recommend this hotel.
will avoid at all costs in future, will not recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms beginning with 42 if possible.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your review. I was disappointed to read that your stay was interrupted by noise and that your bedroom was not satisfactory. Our check in time is at 3.00pm and you should not have been delayed in checking in to the extent that you were. I will certainly look in to all of your points raised. I am glad that your experience of our staff and the restaurant were positive. I do hope you will consider returning to the Hotel soon and if you wish to discuss any of these points further please contact us on feedback@redcastlehotel.com
