We travelled down to Arcos de la Frontera from Cordoba and stayed at Casa Campana for two nights. Getting there was interesting: the streets are very, very narrow and we followed our nat-nav right to the place, where we luckily got a parking space near the church that was free. If your car is massive and you’re not confident with the spatial parameters of it, then perhaps park in the big parking area near Santa Maria. We thought it was somewhat of an adventure and quite exciting though!

We were warmly welcomed by Emma who helped us park and get our bearings. We were shown around and recommended some places to eat breakfast at and some restaurants to try out for dinner. On the first night we popped a bottle of champagne and watched the moon rise from the top roof terrace area – wonderful. The roof terrace has a fantastic view – the church San Pedro is right next door and is beautiful. The small cobbled streets and winding roads were wonderful to explore and there weren’t too many tourists actually staying in Arcos at the time which was nice.

We tried a few places to eat and drink – Boabdil was a disaster and included me finding worms in my food – eat there at your own risk. The Italian there is great – we wouldn’t normally go to an Italian but the pizzas looked awesome – and were. Just make sure not to get the house wine and ask for something specifically. La Carcel was good for local tapas but very busy so get there early.

We also really enjoyed the walk around the town that Emma has put together – detailed pamphlet with really interesting information about the town.

Room: the room was simple, clean and comfortable with an en-suite shower/toilet room. There was a TV in the room which we didn’t use as well as coffee and tea making facilities which was a nice touch. The room opened onto a central courtyard (roof terrace) which had loungers and a higher roof terrace with a table and chairs.
There is no breakfast served at Casa Campana but there's a place that does tostadas down the road. Also, just to note, they only take cash here, no card facility, so if you haven't paid fully up front, don't forget to take cash. There is wireless internet but it didn't seem to work upstairs in our room or on the terrace - we sat at the top of the stairs to get a signal (internet wasn't that important to us so it wasn't a negative)

I would say that the only negative was that it was a bit noisy upstairs on the terrace and in our room from noise below in the house and sometimes from the church bells that go on all day – but we soon got used to that.

So all in all a lovely stay at Casa Campana – we would definitely come again, thank you for your warm hospitality.

Emma is a great host! The rooms were charming, comfortable and quiet. It was everything that we needed after 10 days traveling in Andalucia. Its situated in the old town so you really get a feel of Arcos. The view is breathtaking from the roof terrace. I would go back anytime. Plus there was a parking nearby, very cheap.

Travelling with our 2 young dughters (8 & 10) we were looking for somewhere traditional, safe and central to base ourselves for a week in Andalusia - Casa Campana was just perfect! This lovely guest house in the heart of the old town of Arcos, between the two famous churches, is run by expat Brits Emma and Jim and their family, and felt like a home away from home for us. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment which was cosy and comfortable, and shares acces to the spacious terrace and Mirador, with breathtaking views to the south-east. Emma offered some great local tips and day trips to places like Ronda (take the scenic route through the mountains and the town of Grazalema), Jerez (don't miss the "Dancing Horses" of the Real Equestre) and the beaches of Zahara and Tarifa (have lunch looking at Africa, and see the Rock of Gibraltar) were followed by a siesta and then an evening stroll to one of the many nearby local restaurants. The Arcos old town is very traditional, very safe and clean, and not too "touristy" - only just over ahour from Seville but a world away from the hustle of the city. In our week we were able to settle in to the rhythms of village life - some favourite memories are our kids playing street soccer with the locals and watching a gent take his piglet for an evening walk! Thanks Emma & family for making us feel so welcome, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend Arcos and Casa Campana to fellow travellers.

I travelled to Arcos in August this year. It is certainly full of beauty, situated on a mountain top over looking the countyside you couldnt find a better place to retreat to, However my stay would not have been as great had i not stayed at Casa Campana. Having decided to travel to Acros alone i was almost certain i may at some point get bored but this was not the case. The moment i arrived at Casa Campana i was greeted with a big welcome. It was exactly what i expected and more. placed in the Old town, the house still holds its beautiful classic andalucian featues. the rooftop is by far my favoraite with an amazing veiw of the entire town and surounding countryside. I decided to partisipate in the walking tour of the town with the help of Casa Campana who had created an outstanding pamflet, packed full of interesting monuments to visit and history, all at your own pace and lesuire which really gives you the rustic feel of the place. The rooms in Casa Campana are exactly what you need a cool place to get out of the heat, clean and based on roof terrece with incredible view. ANY questions i had were answered warmly, i was told where the best places to go to eat, for music, for dinks and for young people. I would highly recommend Casa Campana, if your looking for a friendly and relaxing place to stay this has more than what your looking for. I will certainly be returning!
