“beautifully located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

Exerything great, but it is very difficult to drive to the hotel (only small cars can do it) and even more difficult to park!!! Except that, everything perfect. Service was very nice, but do not expect service like in the US. It is efficient but waiters will probably not chat with you. This is normal in paradores. The village is very beautiful!!!

“exquisite location - but the bells!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

We could not fault the historic building for charm & atmosphere. However, as previously mentioned, we did have flies all the time in the room (& this was November?!?!), and also in the dining room where the breakfast was mainly uncovered. This did put us off a bit & makes you wonder what it must be like in the summer.

We managed the drive into the town OK. With care, should be achievable by most with a medium sized car (we had a Seat Leon).

We had booked through booking.com, & so only qualified for a standard room (no 14), overlooking the square/car park. It was a large room, but dark. They wanted another 30 euros a night to upgrade. We had originally booked 3 nights. I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the church bell opposite which chimed every hour THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT! We had earplugs, but could still hear it. Also, we arrived on Sunday & the square was the hangout for local lads, shouting & whooping until quite late.

We got through one night, but the second were awoken every hour ,on the hour by the bell. The receptionist said it was a 'quiet' ring at night time, but of course you end up listening for it. NOT the place for light sleepers! It all looks marvellous on our photos though.

“We tried several times to have a drink on the patio to enjoy the view, but could not get help despite several attempts.”

We made the reservation only ten days before arriving, and could only make a Standard, No Terrace room reservation. That put us in Room #1, which had two teeny windows over a very small road and facing another building. All other rooms appear to be either Upgraded with Terrace with a spectacular view over the cliff, or Standard with a Terrace with a view of the plaza which is like a parking lot. At least those rooms have large windows. Our windows did not have screens, and I wish they had. We had about two flies per day, and only opened a window once for a short bit. We parked in the plaza, for which the Parador picked up the 3.50E per day charge. I suggest parking along the Parador building or the south edge of the plaza wall with the view. At least the driver will be able to exit the car. Cars parked in the plaza are so close together that the driver may have trouble exiting; or worse yet, there will be room to exit his car after parking, but not later after someone parks closer next to him. I saw an older gentleman standing around. I asked if he were looking for a parking spot. He said “No, we parked, and we’re still married!” I understood exactly what he meant. Your compact car needs to have side mirrors that fold in. We wanted to have a drink on the Parador patio, but it was too windy, too hot, too cold, or we couldn’t get anyone to serve us. We tried a few times just to have a drink, even indoors, but could not locate someone to serve us. Dinner and breakfast services appeared to have ample help. Breakfast was included in the room charge and was very generous. The room and bathroom were large and in good shape. There were lots of places to sit, place luggage, use a computer, or just put your stuff in the room. Free internet. Nice people at the front desk. Good location. The open patio within the Parador building is beautifully designed and finished.

“Fantastic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

The Parador is extremely well situated at the top of Arcos. We got there just before sunset which was amazing. The room and bathroom were very nice and comfortable. We had an excellent meal in the patio as well.

“delightful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

The other reviews are pretty much "right-on", but I will add my voice. Staying here for one night added a delightful dimension to our interesting experiences in southern Spain. While my husband negotiated the uber-narrow streets of Arcos, I, the navigatore, groaned and held my breath. The streets and the parking are do-able, do not fear. The "parking attendant guy" indicated an available spot to us and we tipped him. Well, the guy's gotta make a living! The parador does pick up the parking fee.

Our spacious, quiet and comfortable room # 9 had a great terrace overlooking the valley, an in-room safe, wifi at no extra charge and a large bathroom. The view - Wow!
We enjoyed the handsome restaurant and other public areas of this charming parador.

I was pleased to find a lovely shop where I purchased some gifts close to the parador owned by a young British woman called AndaluChic. She has a unique selection of items in her shop, not the usual "stuff".
