“Fabulous Skiing Week from the Alpine Club”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2010

We stayed in a 1 bedroom timeshare swap at the Alpine Club for 1 week in March 2010.

Our apartment was 4 star. It was well equiped and maintained. We had a view at the back with 2 balconies but although this did not have the views over the valley, it was south facing and got the sun. We slept so well there.

We found all the staff really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the restaurant. There was always a menu each day (Small 13 euros, Large 15 euros) and it was a soup and salad buffet, then a choice of 2 main courses. We found little difference in size from small to large. Excellent value. You can get a 7 day breakfast, dinner or half board package if you wish. There was also an a la carte menu with plenty of choice.
The resort is on a hill out of Schladming and some people would not find it walkable from the town. We walked in and out (20 mins in, 25 mins out) on a few occasions. There is a bus stop at the end of the drive, only about 200m away.

We had never been to Schladming before and found the skiing excellent. We are intermediates and that is what the majority of the area is. There are 4 interconnecting mountains, you do not get bored quickly. We actually found we could almost ski in/ski out. We found a footpath just up from the bus stop that took you to the edge of a field that leads onto a Red run to the cable car for Planai or chair towards Hockwurzen.
The Sledge run (7km) from the top of Hockwurzen was great fun and we highly recommend it for all ages.

“Stunning views, great staff, excellent aparments, return garenteed!”

2 weeks here, was only meant to be 1, but our 2nd resort so pailed by comparison we returned.
Week 1, front facing 1 bedroom apartment, full glass frontage, dining, and awaking to direct views of the Dachstein mountain range, snow capped of course!
Week 2, a 2 bed spacious set up facing the pine clad hill side.
Car essential, Winter Garten restuart in town a good treat, resort menu good, but duplicates itself fro week 2.
Local must see. Bodensee, Dachstein toll road, if not the €29 cable car. Planai cable car, far better and a bit cheaper.
We loved it, photos via www.twoclots.com
We will be back, thank you Alpine Club.

“Slightly Wornout, pre-season.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2007

First week in Dec 2007, stayed in 2 bedroom suite facing front, with friends who are Sunterra members.
General impression is that it's a bit past its prime, faded, jaded, bit scruffy if you look carefully. 4 stars claimed is rather optimistic in my opinion, although the rooms were hugh with seperate bathrooms, and well equipped kitchenettes.
Pool and leisure facilities were closed for renovation, we had not been informed of this, which set a very poor note to start with. Alpine Club (AC) were prepared to provide tickets to the Public Pool in Schladming, but I feel this was merely a device to fend off complaints.
Since the resort was not due to open for the season until 8th December, it's a little difficult to sum up Schladming, no doubt is is very appealing when the crowds are present, and all the Bars, Shops etc fully open.
We visited the Xmas Market in Salzburg, which was well worth the car journey.
The AC had an excursion to Prug for their Traditional AdventMarkt, we went on our own in the car, and were pleased not to have paid heavily for this particular trip.
The AC is situated halfway up (down) the hill between Schladming and Roohrmoos, walking down to the town turned out to be fairly challenging, it's quite a hard slog if you aren't totally in condition.
One serious gripe about the AC - although the bedrooms are Non-Smoking, the lounge of the apartment had ashtrays, and was very smelly. We asked if something could be done, and they supplied an aerosol can of Oust (air-freshener).
I imagine most folks will be skiing in the winter, and the AC will be good for them. However, I have reservations about taking young children, as there's not much to do, and a real hike down to the town for any sort of amusements (for kids) - meals - Bars shops (for the adults).

“Comfortable hotel in spectacular setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2007

We stayed here for one week in a two bedroom apartment and the facilities were very good - pool was open all day and was clean. The appartment was comfortable with a small kitchen and two bathrooms - very useful for a family of four. Satelite TV with CNN and Sky news. The staff were all friendly and helpful and there were plenty of organised trips and entertainment if you needed them. Tennis , table tennis and pool was available with no charge except a deposit for the cues. We dined in the hotel restaurant two nights but it was a little pricey although the food and service was good. There are plenty of eating places either down the mountain in Schladming or up the mountain in Rohrmoos.
Schladming has lots of hiking trails and two cable cars as well as rafting and summer go karting down the mountain - which was great fun. The Dachstein mountains provide a stunning backdrop to your stay here and we were blessed with sunny clear weather six out of the seven days so everywhere looked perfect. The local houses look so attractive with the flowers on the wooden balconies and wood stacked up for the winter. Everywhere is very clean. Don't expect health and safety though - we watched a local band play in the middle of Schladming one evening and the waiter dropped a pile of glasses in the middle of the walkway and just left it there until the end - people were hopping over glass.

I would recommend this hotel and this area.

“Great base for walking”

Nice location on hillside overlooking Schladming with stunning views across the Dachstein range. Modest well-appointed apartment. Staff warm and friendly. Pool, sauna, gym and tennis courts. Ideally located for long Alpine walks. Hotel restaurant good, if a little pricey. Lots of fine bars and eateries down in the village.(see pics)
