Just got back from a week in Schladming at the Alpine club. Firstly having read some mixed reviews we didn't know what to expect, however we were pleasantly surprised to find helpful and friendly staff and a new recently modernised apartment. There are two houses at Alpine club with around half the rooms having a mountain view, all the rooms have two balconies and while some have a full kitchen most have kitchenettes. There was ample parking, a basement for ski storage and an onsite restaurant and shop (which we did not use, but others guests seemed to enjoy it).
Our group consisted of two couples - we had two rooms, ours was on the 2nd floor with not much of a view (well of the forest behind the hotel) but had been recently refurbished to a high standard, our friends room was on the fifth floor and had a spectacular view of the mountains but had yet to be refurbished so was a little old fashioned. I would recommend renting a car if you travel out of season (we used www.hechl.at who have an office in schladming) as public transport is limited and it is a good 10-15 minute walk into town but don't let this put you off because the views are more than worth it for the location.
Schladming is a fairly small but well located town there are a few things to do here and there are plenty of cafés, restaurants and bars but as there were limited opportunities for skiing we ventured out to Salzburg (around 1hr away), Graz (around two hours away) and Radstadt (around 30mins away). During our stay the staff at Alpine club were more than helpful and we no problems to speak of, we will definitely return here again!
