“Good friendly family hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Typical Austrian Gasthof for the price food good if you like meat. Very friendly staff. Third floor bedroom a bit of a climb with no lift. Great location for local bars and only short walk to ski lifts.
Needs a bit of renovation all round but its antique charm adds to its character. If you want to know anything ask Albert Jnr or Snr don't bother with your ski Reps.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms on back. No lift so if stairs a problem ask for lower floor. Austtrian four posters on...

“Good gasthof, but looking "tired"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

we stayed for two weeks in aug/sept and were pleased overall with the experience. the hotel is centrally located and very traditional but is in need of a refresh with tired decoration, the odd cracked tile/missing lampshade etc. the food we found was very limited for the soup and dessert courses but with a good hearty main course well cooked.it will be interesting to see how the hotel manages without its star asset - its receptionist christina - who really made our holiday, but we understand has now left

Room Tip: no lift but there was assistance to get the bags to our room

“Nice hotel - shame about the food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Stayed here for a weeks skiing with my 2 sons and friend in Jan 2011, booked direct at a good price and was looking forward to our stay.Taxi picked us up from the station, friendly check-in and reasonable room for the price. Our only problem was with the food variety/quality at dinner.
We had stayed in Schladming for race training before and had a drink in this hotel as it looked nice and was central so no lugging gear long distances to lifts, food looked amazing and further reviews on other sites seemed to confirm this. The food is amazing - but only if your a non-resident and/or eating from the a la carte section, half board is a choice of spag bol, wiener snitzel, sausage and chips or vegetarian on 6 out of 7 nights, on night 7 we were offered the a la carte and the food was much nicer . I would go back but only to use this hotel as a cheap, convenient b+b base, just be aware that reviews saying the hotel is well regarded for its food are referring to the a la carte menu and not the 1/2 board deal.

Room Tip: Look for a room on a higher floor at the back - much quieter.

“2011 Up-date”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2011

We returned to the Hotel this year and immediately appreciated the removal of the heavy traditional entrance door - the new automatic door is a real boon when carrying bags and ski gear! The staff were as usual very friendly and helpful as before. The food is very good. We did not experience the problems out-lined by a recent reviewer so perhaps the management have since dealt with the situation. Finally, we got more help from the Hotel staff than from the tour company representative in dealing with a ski-ing injury.

“fantastic !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2011

what can i say - brilliant- the best hotel i have stayed in for skling and i have been in a few- i went on 12th march 2011 with a group of freinds and my hubby- the rooms are great and spacious and if you get the top floor - 4 poster beds, whowwwww... especially as the lads who were sharing got those.. ha,ha,- staff 2nd to non- nothing is too mush trouble, and the food, well you get a set menu if you book half board and though very good, if you find that you cannot find anything you fancy- just ask, as they have a great a la carte menu that they serve every day to locals, and they will get you something off that menu- so never be affraid th ask, we did and they never said no.. now thats great service... even vegies !!! they have a veggie menu - just ask for it...

the resort was fantastic and even though limited snow this year - they kept them in great condition and we skied the whole area every day rigght to the bottom of the piste... food on the mountain is great and its go something for every one.. it was quite so not to many queues.. and the areas are linked very well- we are all good skiers and it was enough for everyone- even the boarders....

apre is livley or quite which ever you profer.. and the restaurants in the village are great..

all round one of my best holidays - and we will be coming back and we will stay at the kirchenwirt... xxx roll on ski 2012.. xxx
