The Kolkata Zoo is hemmed on all sides by the city and as such is very compact - the zoo layout allows visiting the various enclosure without the need of transportation facilities.
The zoo is good but the animals are not very well maintained. The zoo is under renovation and is known that it will get better.
The overall maintenance is pathetic. The place is mapped out shabbily. Encroachments for animals are not well maintened. The place is very very dirty and filthy. The toilets are a shame. Visitors follow nio rule for littering eith plastic and paper. feel sorry for the animals
One may find the call of nature, enjoy the time there.
A good place to spend the day and also picnic.
Specially with kids.
Though the animal lovers will not like the way most of the animals are kept and the condition,size of most cages.
