This is one of a number of De Vere Venues that have taken an attractive historic building as its centrepiece, with accommodation provided in more modern blocks behind. Here's my review, in my new 7B's format (!):
* Bed - comfy but the 2 single beds pushed together were not sufficiently linked to avoid that ridge feeling between them.
* Bedroom - decent size, no view, no fridge but tea & coffee tray, plus a safe.
* Bathroom - decent size, with full bath.
* Breakfast - it was great to be asked by the chef how we wanted eggs, and got some tastily poached. Delicious. All other items were decent too, apart from the lifeless and watery Value baked beans, which let the overall standard down. These should be replaced asap.
* Bar - Wood-panelled and dare I say intimate. Good lager and ale selection including local beer. It is the kind of place where I would expect the weekend newspapers to be available, but they weren't (although you can of course order your own for the following morning).
* Budget (value for money) - I had a special offer, but looking at the current price on their online reservation system, it is probably in line with what you would expect, especially with the complimentary access to health & fitness. Other internet booking sites may undercut.
* Back (would I revisit?) - Yes. Staff went out of their way to be helpful (reception, dinner & breakfast teams, housekeeping) and the terrace/grounds would be very enjoyable to relax around when the weather is more clement...
