“Great boutique hotel on outskirts of Cape Town”

Recommended by Susie Freeman Travel (the BEST for RSA and Mauritius!) and a very good recommendadtion too. Colona Castle is very stylish, has great facilities and really friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in the Chinese Suite which was very comfortable indeed - large room and bed, ensuite and private terrace. We had dinner on one night which was delicious. Breakfast was very comprehensive with delicious fruit. Owners Michael and Nicole were very involved and welcoming/helpful. Would recommend that you have a hire car if you are using this hotel as a base for Cape Town as Muizenberg is a 20 minute drive from the center of town. Upside of this though is the view and the peace.

“Wonderful getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

We stayed at the Colona Castle for 10 days in October and loved every day. The hotel is located in a secluded cul-de-sac, very quiet place, easily accesible from Cape Town, Muizenberg, etc. It is lovely inside, completely private, well-decorated with wonderful antiques, the rooms are large (we basically stayed in a Chinese suite which was enourmous), the staff is very helpful and considerate and you do not feel as though you are staying at the hotel. We usually had breakfast at the hotel and lunch/dinner out which worked well, however if you want a full-service meal experience, then this is probably not the best place for a traditional room service meny. For my partner and I, we wanted top quality private hotel, in a quiet and safe location, with easy access to the city and all the comforts of a 5* hotel and we certainly had this and much more at the Colona Castle. I would definitely return!

We stayed here on our 2nd week in Capetown. Like one review said, great place but shame on location. Unless you have a car, definitely a great place to be at. Not much to do around the city its in. We were suppose to get the Zebra room, but was given the Green room for our honeymoon stay. Now it's a little difficult to sleep when its two twin beds stuck together. Also, due to the castle being out not many electrical outlets in our room that we really needed. Pillows weren't great as we had to sleep with three pillows as they would simply flatten out.
Also, a lot of the sightseeing or tours we went with that the hotel gave met that we got picked up from the hotel and had to go back to Capetown, which is like 30-40mins drive back if traffic is good. That made it annoying for us and our drivers.

“Wonderful hotel with incredible attention to detail!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

My family just returned from our stay in Africa and we were fortunate to have stayed for 4 nights at Colona Castle. It was wonderful. It kind of felt like staying at your rich aunt and uncle's house. Nicole, the owner, brings a designer's eye, attention to detail and high end service to the entire hotel. We were a little nervous with the small kids and beautiful antiques that she would be uptight. She wasn't, she was kind but firm about what they could and couldn't touch and always gave them alternatives to play with.

We stayed in the Safari suite, the room was beautiful and perfect for our family. It couldn't have been more comfortable. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and they went out of their way to accommodate the children.

It is true that the location is 30 minutes from Cape Town, but for us it worked out well. We had a car and wanted to see the Cape, not just Cape Town. I would say the only hiccup was the cost of doing laundry. It was our mistake for not checking the prices... but they charge by item vs. load so we ended up paying a fortune ($100) for 2 small loads. It was like a couple dollars per toddler sock... more than they are to buy new. Oh well...

All and all, we felt very well taken care of. The decor is beautiful, the staff is amazing and we simply couldn't recommend Colona Castle more highly.

“Castle over the Cape...serving amazing cuisine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2010

This is my second extended stay in Cape Town with my daughter (3). We've stayed in the 5 star hotels, rented a villa and have stayed at Colona Castle twice now. Well, my second visit confirmed my thoughts- This is really a great place to stay! I am not too into shopping and staying in large impersonal hotels near shopping areas which most are. Cape Town afterall isnt known for its shopping. It is known for it's beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, and splendid wine farms. Yes it is a bit outside of Cape Town, only 25 mins and either of the 3 drives into town are beautiful with little traffic with lots to do along the way. Colona is central to everything beautiful. I can't tell you how nice it is to "come home" at the end of a busy day. The hotel is well known for their light, fresh and amazing tasteful and healthy cuisine... They have a very special restaurant about 5 mins from the hotel, Harbour house, and I am only to realize now that they have the best tables on reserve for their guests.
