“Dom Pedro Golf above par!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Stayed in Dom Pedro Golf for a week last September. It's only a 5 min walk from a lovely, well kept, sandy beach, ideal for walks and swimming. Lots of shops at the Marina, which is a must see - yachts and Gin Palaces galore. Sept was quietish which suited us fine, most kids back at school. There is no Golf Course attached to the hotel, strange, but we don't play - so no problem. Lots of golfers stayed and there was a constant stream of minibuses ferrying budding Tigers to local fairways! The hotel itself was immaculate, rooms very comfortable, bathroom roomy and airy. Maid service every day that we were there. Check-in is from 2pm and as we arrived at 10am, having been travelling since 5am we were a bit disappointed. However we were allowed check in our luggage and went for a wander around resort, had a snack and returned, hopefully, at 12.40 to be told our room was ready! Imagine when we opened door and found the room had not been cleaned!! A quick call to reception, apologies all round and maids were on the scene in minutes. It wasn't a big deal, as we were still over an hour early, and later on that afternoon, a porter knocked on the door with a complimentary bottle of wine! Nice touch! Breakfast is buffet style, rashers/sausages and eggs not remotely like we are used to at home - but Hey! we're on holiday! Fresh fruit, cereal, and pastries and breads smashing! Breakfast is served till 10am, and we noticed it got very busy after 9.30 so would recommend you get down before this. Waiting staff inclined to be grumpy when very busy! Tea not great - coffee much better! Checked out the dinner menu which looked to be quite good but a little pricey! We found 3 excellent restaurants just across the road (3 minutes!) serving local fare, very reasonable! Towels for the pool area were available from Reception for a €5 deposit. Pool area was spacious with lots of sunbeds. Pool a little cold, but it was September! Reception could sometimes be understaffed, with checkins/outs and people returning towels so waits of 20mins plus not unusual. Overall a very good hotel and we would love to go back!

Room Tip: Sea views spectacular but other side very pleasant also.

“what a Shame”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

I have reviewed both Dom Pedro Portobelo and Marina with glowing reports and Have mentioned using the facilities in the Dom Pedro Golf in the first 25 years of our visits it had been closed for a complete overall and a upgrade to a 5 star, in our past visits there was always live music and often dancing, even some of the locals would come and Dance. Alas with the new layout the music has gone and replaced by a kind of Disco which has been replaced by a chap behind the Bar behind a computer screen playing music.
Last year because DP Marina was closed I opted to return to the DP Portobelo where I once owned a TIME SHARE because I felt the Balcony View was far surperior getting Sun from sunrise to sunset. My Apartment in the DP Marina IS the Presidential Suite with the Large Balcony and own Jacuzzi.
My usual routine over the years was to go to the Golf for the nightcap and listen to the music This year and Last, my wife gone to our Apartment. I have found myself alone apart from the Bar Staff who i have known for many years especially a crazy young Lady who shares my humour.
The Decor I found very cold with silver grey pillars and a large room which I understand is for smoking and TV the times I visited when I looked in it was also empty this replaced the area where the live music was and people Danced.
I know November is out of the busy season though I believe there are plenty of Golfers around. I will admit the Garden and Pool are excellent subject to weather I was so disappointed my visits were few
I would not rate this as a 5 star on the bar and entertainment even though I find the Staff very friendly, having spent many years in the Licenced Trade position and still advise, The Staff must be bored to tears
However it would seem that Portobelo has closed its Resaurant and Bar in the evening and the Marina,s Bar can suffer a bout of emptiness but is much cosier the staff certainly on my wave length in humour we had a imaginary dog this year.
Think of us loyal customers in October November

Room Tip: Make sure you choose a room with a good view

My friend and I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks B&B bases in Oct 2011, Hotel is in a great location there's fantastic beach marina only 5 mins lovely walk away , Querteria is about 10 mins walk along by beach which is town with many shops , the public bus stop , supermarket a cafe Pao &Pao lovely coffee, choc cake, fresh salads, homemade soup .across the road from hotel.
Hotel has spacious lounge, bar , outdoor restaurant where hotel staff served snacks coffees ext. a huge gardens with lovely trees very relaxing private, plenty seating pool area , 3 tennis courts , indoor spa , sauna was out of order , plenty of various spa treatments bit expensive. The hotel staff were helpful at all times we got phone call on 2 occasions to our room if every thing was OK if we needed anything ,we also got complementary bottle of Port which was v good quality. The bed room was with sea garden view which we requested, which was at quite side of hotel there is Casino near by which maybe noisy , balcony small but adequate , bathroom good size , decor bit dated but spotless clean towel changes 2 daily cleaning staff excellent.most helpful.
The breakfasts were v good huge choice Sparkling water chilled water, all kinds juices, large variety of fresh fruit ,yogurts , cereal with prunes nuts ,toast variety of breads pastries, cheeses cold meats. then full hot breakfast where hotel waiter . keep constant eye on that supplies were topped up. tea , herbal tea, coffee waiter service. We eat dinner only 2 nights this was not great it was buffet style. anyway there's plenty of choice restaurants some expensive about Marina some hit miss ,1 Bro , 2 Anchor , in marina good Mayflower had bad food there on the night waiter so rude . But we found one restaurant Colombo which is across the road from hotel excellent in my opinion ,also Fisherman's shack was recommended but didn't go. Overall excellent hotel where we had v enjoyable time of course we had not cloud in sky for 10 days temp 24 to 28 , locals said best Oct since 1971. .I will be back for sure. one problem i know it was Oct but there was no live music at night Visit local market good trip

My husband and two boys (aged 10 and 5) went to The Dom Pedro Golf Resort in the October half term 2011. The Hotel is in a great location, only a five minute walk to the beach and the same to the marina. Across the road is a supermarket some small bars and restaurants and a couple of little gift/paper shops.
The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and were very willing to help if you needed anything or any information. The room cleaning staff were very good. The towels were changed each day if needed and they would come round each evening to see if they needed changing again. The rooms were kept very clean and tidy. An excellent service. We only stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but the breakfast was very good. Plenty to choose from including cereal, toast, yoghurt, cheese and cold hams etc, fresh fruit, various breads, cakes and pastries. A hot selection was also available which was varied each day. Fruit juice and tea and coffee was available too. Overall an excellent hotel where we had a very comfortable stay. Would go again.

Room Tip: We had a room on the top floor which could accommodate a family of four, there was no balcony (which...

“Dom Pedro Golf Hotel (not resort!)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

This is rated as a FOUR star hotel (and not 5 star as other reviews state). It is ideally located to access the Vilamoura Marina, Vilamoura beach, and is about 10 minute walk along the beach road to the town of Quertiera. The hotel has a spacious lounge with bar area, relaxing gardens with outdoor swimming pool (not heated) and a small spa and indoor pool. The indoor spa area is in a lovely tranquil stone/slate building with wooden beamed roof. It was disappointing that the sauna was out of order and the jacuzzi only worked properly on two of our four day visit.

The breakfast was very good and as expected though the waiters, one in particular, were not welcoming and one quite rude at times to the point we made a comment to the reception staff. On arrival the reception staff who checked us in was not welcoming and made no attempt to explain the hotel facilities either. It was on our last evening that we found a room in the basement that had a games room, and local tourist information.

The room was acceptable. It was adequately sized with a good sized bathroom and small balcony. We had a good view of the sea and out towards the marina. We would have liked our own tea/coffee making facilities. Generally the decor of the hotel was dated and the rooms in particular would benefit from a make over as they felt grubby.

On three days there was drilling/work being carried out in the hotel. I can accept this needs to be done but was frustrated that the noise continued after 16:00hrs by which time we had often returned.

We went to the hotel on a special deal and out of season. I'm not sure what it would be like when it was busy. Similarly I would not be happy spending a full fee on this hotel.

The area is great for people interested in golf (I'm not) and those wanting to mill around the marina which is very relaxing. The restaurants are exceptionally well priced and the public transport was good.

I'm looking forward to visiting Portugal again but want to visit more towards the west coast.

Room Tip: higher floors have a better view
