“Prepare for a sleepless night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

I spent a sleepless night in this hotel thanks to the most unconfortable bed I've ever tried. Believe me, I travel quite a lot for business, I've been to both extremely good and disgusting hotels, but never had too many problems to sleep..
The first room the gave me was facing the motorway...I mean, the hotel was empty and still, they decided to put me on such a noisy room...I then changed for an internal one (this meaning facing the lobby of the hotel) and was happy about the size of the room....until I realized that the bed was so soft (one of those old slackened beds that feel more like a boat than a bed) that I could not even fall asleep....the morning after I woke up with such backpain that I had to take tablets....and still I had a night to go before check out. I asked if any other room had a different materess and I've been asnwered that they were all the same....how is it possible that a hotel pays to much attention to the bed quality????? It has to be for cost savings reaons...

Breakfast buffet was crowded, very few tables, few impolite waiters serving and setting up tables, very limited choice!

Hotel does not have rooms service, just a restaurant with very few meal selections...

For the same price you can get a much more decent hotel in Oslo, only reason you would sleep there is distance to business premises....

I would never stay there anymore!

Dear Tripaholic81,

Thank you for your review. This helps us to improve our services.

Our maintenance crew have checked all the beds in the hotel and some beds have been changed. Your room had a 2,2 m wide King Size bed, and this bed will be changed shortly to one standard double 1,6 m bed.

The breakfast that is included in all our rates is currently under evaluation and will be improved.

The hotel was fully booked most weekdays in February. All rooms are noise insulated and some rooms are located to the quiet inside or to the quiet backside.

We have a way to go, but have big ambitions and we will work hard give the best hotel in service and have the best hotel breakfast in Norway in 2011.

“Pretty standard for "that" price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

I stayed here for three nights. Lucky me that the office is paying, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

This hotel is 25 minutes by train from Oslo central station and its location is quite tricky. It says in the website that it's wall-to-wall with Sandvika storsenter shopping mall but the entrance is actually facing a big road on the other side so it's quite hard to reach from Sandvika station, you have to go through the mall to go there easiest.

Service is average, breakfast -> They should have done better. The warm food buffet was nothing to be proud of and they can't properly make soft-boiled eggs.

I guess it's not recommended for family / pleasure traveller. It's business only.

“Stay in Oslo”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2010

Lets be honest : The reson you would choose this location is because you have business in Sandvika/Bærum, and cannot make it into Oslo centre.

That being said the Hotel is very well located if you do indeed have business in the area.
It is easily reached from the Sandvika station (5 minutes walk), and right next to a huge shopping mall if that is your thing.
It is also right next to the motorway, but as half the rooms face the interior courtyard (including ours) that doesnt have to be a problem.
The hotel is a typical run of the mill chain hotel. Standard business like check-in with no particular frills. The rooms are standard sized with am adjoining bath shower with their own brand of amenities - not particularly interesting. The rooms are nice and clean and with fresh linens.
Excellent free wifi throughout the facility.
The two main problems in our room (and over breakfast we heard from other guests that it was the same in their rooms) are:
1) The beds are way too soft- you will not be comfortable in this bed unless you take the top matress off the bed and place it directly on the floor. Aboslutely no support for your body in these beds, and several guests at breakfast complained of backache. So unless your regular hangout is a french horehouse, you will not be comfortable here.
2) the aircon does not regulate beyond 'warm' , 'hot' or 'sauna' - we both woke up in the middle of the night and could not stand the heat even though the aircon was on the lowest possible temeprature setting. Seems the hotel thinks that when it is cold outside, the guests only need heat in their rooms . Again this was confirmed by other guests at breakfast.
Would I stay here again: No way!

Dear guest,

You as our guest are the most important for us. We are sorry if we failed in any way to provide you with good service and politeness. We train our staff members in service in different ways on a regular basis.

Thon Hotel Oslofjord has a large breakfast buffet with a large selection of hot and cold dishes. In addition we offer a free breakfast menu where you can order special requests such as omelets or fried eggs “sunny side up”. We are sorry if the breakfast were not good enough this time.

You are welcome to contact me and I will follow up this complaint further with you.
Best regards
Lars Pettersen

“So bad, old, dirty and very bad reception”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2010

I stayed twice at this hotel in one year, each time for 4 nights.
The rooms are old and quite dirty (the curtains, the blankets, lots of hair on the towels... ) but they are big.
Twice I had a room with view on the highway and with the noise. First time I had an allergy to the sheets and/or the towels (probably the starch) and I explained the problem to a lady at the reception. Her answer was I can't do anything... So I found myself a solution: I slept on the blanket with pants and a sweatshirt, and a shirt on my pillow in order to avoid my skin touch the sheets...
The second time, I brougth my sleeping bag, but apparently it is not sufficient, allergy again, so the towels are also contaminated. And I couldn't sleep the first two nigths because of the noise of the air conditioning. I decided to call the reception and guess what the guy said: no solution! They know that they have problems with the air conditioning, but there is no room available and no technician around there, so I have to deal with it alone... Nice for the meeting...

I haven't chosen the hotel, it was booked by my society, but next time I will ask for another hotel. I normally never complain about hotels or restaurants (the restaurant is ok and the waitors nice) but this time, it is incredibly bad. The worst is really the service you get for the high price you pay. People at the reception are really not helpful.

Also, I forgot, my husband tried to phone me several times, and it was impossible to reach me, the person on the phone was pretending not understanding the room number (even if I then told them that somebody would call), I finally phoned him from the hotel the first time, and I thus had to pay the communication at their price...
Thank you so much Thon Hotel...

Dear Madam,

Thank you for taking time to fill out a review of our hotel. This helps us to improve our services. We are very sorry for all your inconveniences.

We are happy you like the size of our rooms, but we are sorry if you did not like the interior. We have refurbished 165 rooms already, and we will finish and make the rest of the rooms new and modern late this year. Our housekeeping staff is under careful supervision, and we try hard to get rooms clean at very high standards. We are sorry if we failed in any way this time, and this we will follow up with our staff. Our linen cleaning company washes towels and bed sheets at the highest standards, same standard as for hospitals, and if possible we would like to find out more about your allergy reaction.

We have rooms to the motor-way and to the quiet inside atrium and backside. All the rooms are noise isolated, but if you are sensitive for noise please request a quiet room at check-in.
Our hotel has a central heating and cooling system, and in every room there is an extra air-conditioning for additional individual adjustments. This can be turned off completely and to quiet by pushing the off button. We are sorry if this air-condition was too noisy, and our maintenance team will have a close look at this in all rooms now before the summer season.

We are sorry if our staff were not understanding and helpful enough to you. This I will personally follow up with our front desk staff.

We try hard to improve and be the best with service, so if possible please contact me at lars.pettersen@thonhotels.no and I will follow up this complaint with you.

Kind regards
Thon Hotel Oslofjord
