We stayed here for 6 nights as we were doing family history research in the area. The rooms were ok, the breakfast good. The place is all right for one or two nights, but it's not recommended for anyone who has jet lag or simply wants to rest in the room while on a longer stay. Here's what happened to us on a Dutch holiday weekend, when the place was not even busy. After a day of touring around, we came back in the evening to find that the room had not been cleaned. Instead, we found a snippy letter from the hotel manager, in Dutch, under our door which said that the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door and so no one could clean the room. It was a strange letter as the Do Not Disturb sign was on a suitcase, not on the door. And, while we had been out, someone had been in to fix a light panel.
We called and they came right away and cleaned it. However, the woman who came complained bitterly about being forced to come and clean our room, that it wasn't her job.
The next day we asked the cleaning supervisor what happened. She said she was aware that we'd left the room at 10 am, so she knew the room was not occupied, but the cleaning crew had gone by at 9 am and when they saw the Do Not Disturb sign on at that time, they simply went on to the next floor and later reported that they could not get access. We asked if she didn't think that was strange, she just shrugged and said that we shouldn't have been hanging around in the room, that other guests leave very early for the day.
So, if you have jet lag, or want to sleep in on a holiday, avoid this place. If you are out early in the morning and only come back late at night to sleep, it's ok. We come to Holland every year and normally stay in another area. This is the first time we've encountered poor service like this.
The furniture is old fashioned, and the bathroom, while roomy, is not modern or laid out well. This isn't an old hotel, so it was a bit of a surprise. And they are not careful to keep the lights and equipment working before they give out the room keys. In the time we were there the lights in the ceiling had to be replaced. Not a big issue, but coupled with the cleaning crew experience, it implies a hotel that could use professional management.
