I have taken school groups aged 14-16 to this hotel for 15 years. It is clean and safe and the food is good and plentiful. Madeleine and Rico are fantastic hosts and have helped us out on numerous occasions when things haven't gone quite to plan. Compared to other centres I have experienced on school trips, this one would take some beating. I suspect that some of the negative accounts have been posted by children. I have never noticed a mouldy smell in this centre,although I certainly have in some others.

went on a school trip there, the people working there looks horrible and wore the same clothes constantly and smelled. cooking was terrible, mouldy bread, toilets smelled horrible! beds were squeaky! were unable to use hairspray/perfume/etc in rooms as it could set smoke alarms off:S small, hardly any plug sockets, small dining room, very unwelcoming staff, only 2 or 3 workers, some rooms had a curtain to separate the bathroom and the bedroom, tiles on the roof werent even fitted! we went upstairs into a spare room and found electric socket extensions hanging from the roof and it was blatantly a fire hazard and it even scared our teachers! if you visit this hotel, it is horrible!

went with a school party just back today it is one of the worst hotels i have ever stayed in and dont intend returning soon, We walked into the room and the smell was awful all you could smell was damp, NO AIR CON, Shower was on a slant so the door would not stay shut, bunk beds were for children aged 1-4 so small, left a pile of dvd to watch until we found out there was no dvd player, Food the soup tasted the same every night like water food tasted like nothing microwaved crap, breckfast cardboard with jam,chocolate spread or butter (cold toast) or out of date cereal, all the girls get the good rooms with jacuzzis and 42 inch plasma tv mean while my room crap shower with 15 inch tv. GOOD THINGS the parret is very friendly and while we were there we taught it how to say " Hoi" lol and thee disco rico puts on is amazing but stay away

This is a fabulous hotel for school trips. This year was my 8th time visiting and it gets better every year. Rico and Madeline are teriffic hosts who provide excellent service and entertainment including discos, karoke (with fantastic equipment) movie nights and xbox. Den Halder is a 1 minute walk to the lovely Valkenburg town centre. The food is great and the rooms are all ensuite and very clean. Definately recommended
