Finding a nice hotel in Meppel is not an easy task, so you will end up looking at some good options just outside Meppel. My search ended at Het Heerenhuys. And I did not regret it. They have 5 rooms, in pristine superclean condition. Rooms are charming and well decorated. They have a shared kitchen and living room for their guests which is equally well maintained. Clearly the kind of owners that only settle for the best for their guests. A refreshing approach after staying in so many hotelchains where you are just one of many guests. The owner is friendly and helpful but also knows how to respect the privacy of the guests, no complains there. Also the breakfast selection was good and it made me leave for work smiling that morning. And when Willem is smiling, Willem will write a good review.
Nothing bad at all? Well, there is one thing, but that is not the fault of the B&B, but the location is quite boring. Around the house it is nice, but the village of Ruinerwold is quite boring and for a decent restaurant you have to travel many kilometers (back to Meppel or go to Ruinen). And for a region that is famous for bicycle-tourism, I expected more nice restaurants and more pittoresque villages. But for those who are in search for absolute silence, Ruinerwold is a good location I guess. Let's just say that Heerenhuys will stay in my memory, but I'll try to forget Ruinerwold as soon as possible.
