We stayed in this hotel for one night in May 2007. We needed a hotel near the airport and I booked this one as it was reasonably priced. I did, however, wonder what I’d find as the reviews previous to the one made on 24 May 2007 weren’t very good.

We arrived very late and couldn’t get on two shuttles as they were both full. We then tried to get a bus to the hotel but the driver put us of at the wrong Bastion hotel – Best Western Amsterdam Airport, Vuursteen 1, 2132 LZ Hoofddorp. This hotel is very near the airport and has a convenient 24 McDonalds almost outside. We then had to take a taxi to the correct Bastion hotel (Schiphol/Hoofddorp) at Adrianahoeve 8, 2131 MN Hoofddorp.

This hotel was absolutely fine when we got there. The room looked very new, had a good bathroom, kettle, safety deposit box, television and large fan. It was the cleanest hotel room I had ever stayed in. We had twin beds and needed to move the very heavy bedside table to put the kettle on. There was no dust at all when we moved this piece of furniture.

The breakfast buffet was also very good and had a more relaxed feel than the ones you get in more central hotels.

I note a review written on 24 May 2007 by Fondofgoodtravel and that the reviewer mentions a swimming pool. The Bastion hotel at Adrianahoeve 8 did not have a pool so the reviewer must have been referring to the Bastion hotel at Vuursteen 1. Do be careful that you book the right hotel.

All in all if it was possible to get around easily from this hotel I’d definitely stay again.

I spent three nights at the hotel, using it as a base for a conference in the city.

The free shuttle is an absolute must as the hotel is further from central Amsterdam than Schiphol airport. Even so, the last shuttle leaves Schiphol at 23:15. Miss it and you face a very expensive taxi ride. For many the attraction of the hotel will be its proximity to the airport as this allows for a late arrival or early departure. However anyone landing after 10.30pm will be running to get through to the A9 forecourt in time.

The room was small, the colour scheme uninviting and storage space pitiful. The room was cold on arrival and was completely untouched by cleaning staff during my second day. I had to take the bin down to reception to be emptied.

There were some positives: the safe was free-of-charge and the staff were friendly, particularly the shuttle drivers. Channel 39 is now blocked. There is a kettle for tea and coffee making, but I could find no way of plugging it in other than by unplugging the TV and standing it on an uneven seat cushion.

Free wifi useful and breakfast was satisfactory. Nice, strong coffee, fresh juices and just about enough choice. Available from 6.00am.

The price seemed to be competitive for Amsterdam, but even at this price I am sure there are far better alternatives elsewhere in the city.

We (me, my wife and two our sons fo ages 10 and 14) stayed in Best Western Bastion Schiphol for 3 nights during our organized guided group tour in Benilux. The hotel is pretty good - good sized rooms, good bathrooms with good showers, free shuttle from/to the Airport, not bad breakfast with a few sosages/hams, cruassons/breads, orange juce, coffee, tea, a couple of sereals and milk.
The only problem for us was TV channel 39 - the hard porno channel, which was not possible to block! We've asked the staff a few times, hoping a different person may know how to block this channel - the answer was always: "It is not possible!".
Our 14-year old after he discovered this channel simply did not want to get out of the hotel, obviously.
It looked like we we the first people asking to block the porno channel - probably there were never families with teenagers staying in this hotel before us.
During this our tour we've stayed in 3 other hotels (HUSA in Brussels, RAMADA in Koln, and Crown Plaza in Schiphol - just half-a-mile from this Bastion hotel), and each hotel had paid-per-view porno channel, which were easily blocked by the personnel as soon as we asked for it.

I booked this through the Best Western Website. But upon arrival found t to be flagged as a Bastion Hotel. Anyway, it served its purpose and a satisfactory bed and a cold beer before an early morning departure from the AMS arport. Hard to find if arriving by car...it's behind the Micky D's. Good value considering the pricing of Amsterdam Hotels...96 Euros including breakfast. Courtesy van to airport.
