“Great place to hang out for a couple days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

This is a friendly (but very small) hotel located right near the beach. The beach is beautiful.

The hostel itself is clean (though not as clean as the other flying pig hostels are). There is a smoking and chilling area (though it is very small), and a bar.

The staff are very friendly and really help keep the party going.

There is not much to do around this hostel except the beach though, and its not anywhere near amsterdam central if that's what you are looking for.

This is a backpackers hostel, don't expect much more.

Be sure to use the safe in the room, some other guests had lost something while I was there.

“Super fun, relaxing, great hostel. Perfect for solo travelers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

I booked this hostel as the last part of my EuroTrip, because I wanted to sit on the beach and relax before I went back to the states. This was before I found out that Europe is freaking freezing in the summer, so when I got there, I was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to get the surfing lessons I was looking forward to. However, I ended up having the best time and meeting the most amazing people at this hostel! As soon as I arrived, I was immediately welcomed and brought into the conversation like an old friend by the staff. They really included me and the other guests into the party - giving us free drinks at night and taking us to the beach when the bar closed. During the day, the beach was cold, but it was really nice to walk along the waves and eat dutch pancakes.
I stayed upstairs, where the room was small, but there was a sink and mirror inside the room, which was nice. There were two hall bathrooms with clean showers, which was a great break from dorm bathrooms. The kitchen was big and easy to cook in, and the bar and smoking areas were great. I miss it! I wanna go back!

“Dont listen to the other reviews!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

i booked here as a friend had stayed before and also there wasnt any availability in Amsterdam!
PEOPLE NEED TO REMEMBER THIS A HOSTEL NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL!!!
YOU CAN CHOOSE BETWEEN DIFFEREN SIZE ROOMS/ SET UPS!
The breakfast you cannot complain about !- a hostel providing breakfast will never be the ritz! but for FREE you get bread, cheese, cream cheese, peanut butter, jam, choc spread. corn flakes. real milk, tea and decent coffee.
The staff are very freindly and when we arrived we were told we had come during shift change so could not check us in straigh away [not a problem] but they kindly offered a free beer while we wait ! perfect after navigating the train and bus system.

the only thing that sometimes lets the atmosphere down is the locals that use the hostel as a local bar and smoke place [i dont blame them] can be very aggressive in there speach and gestures. but you can always retire to your room for a bit?

all in - nothing wrong and the staff are just great and plenty of nice peeps to share stories with ....def would stay again

“bit of a dump”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

we got the free shuttle bus to pick us up from amsterdam which was good.
stayed 1 night. was a bit shocked that the 20 bed dorm was in the basement with only 1 window at the end. there were 2 showers but only 1 worked properly.
wasnt impressed with the bar it was pretty expensive, 2.20 for a tiny glass of wine and 4.50 for a vodka and orange. atmosphere was kinda boring with stoners staring into space all over.
there was people sleeping in the dorm at half 8(!) which was so annoying because we wanted to drink. and when we went to bed at about 1am the music was pounding through the ceiling from the bar above. the town is boring on the whole though there is a really nice italian restaurant along the front, mmmmm

“Worst Hostel I have EVER stayed in!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

This hostel is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. We checked in and checked out the next morning straight away. The noise in the hostel means you get zero sleep. The main dorm is below the bar and the floor is made of paper by the way sound comes through. The other problem is that there is only one small window in the corner of the room so there is no air in there and the smell is just so off putting. Just outside the dorm door are the loos and I can only speak of the Male loo, but in there the smell of urine was worse than a public toilet in a subway. I am sure they had not been cleaned or if they had then it was done by someone in about 15 seconds. These are also the loos for the bar so there is a constant trail of people coming up and down all night.

Supposedly the bar is meant to close at 2am but there was still loud music and people bouncing around until at least 4am.

Breakfast that is included - this does not start till 9am and if you want to get a cup of tea or a drink before that you have walk around the town to find something open which is not great. It is nothing special so do not put much money you are spending on the bed towards this as you will have to buy something else.

I am not going to go on anymore but it is very easy to say, if you have choice then stay somewhere else as this is not a nice place and the people in the bar are not hotel guests so the atmosphere in the place is not very friendly.

Very bad hostel!
