“4 star hotel with 2 star rooms”

An attractive hotel from the outside.

The reception is bland but the staff very accommodating and friendly, the dining and bar areas are well laid out and the general decoration is good, however the rooms are small, the showers only trickle and you feel as though you are staying in a different hotel. Quite why they added a balcony to the room is a mystery.

We intended to eat in the restaurant but it was a set meal which did not appeal, so despite a long day walking round Keukerhof we had to drive 5 miles into town to find a restaurant which begs the question why not stay in town in the first place.

“Location, Location, Location!”

Our experience was very similar to the first review. Upon check-in, the girl at the front desk was very helpful and extremely nice. In addition, the garden, lobby and restaurant were also very nice.

We booked a superior room but found it to be very basic and a little outdated. The bathroom was clean and spacious, but the fixtures were a little old and a few of the tiles were cracked.

We were too tired to go out on our first night in the hotel, so we decided to eat at the hotel's restaurant. The food was great, but not really worth the 25 euro price. (The price is the same for each dinner on the menu.) Nonetheless, it is expensive to eat almost everywhere in the area. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel, but we wish we would have since everything looked great.

Now the good parts... The hotel which is located in a very quiet town was around 10 minutes away from Keukenhof and less than 3 kilometers away from the North Sea. (Noordwijk aan See).

Overall we had a good experience but we wouldn't recommend paying more than 100 euro a night per room unless breakfast is included.

  • Liked — The area was very quiet and in a great area.
  • Disliked — The rooms were a little outdated.

“Nice Hotel in a great location”

The Golden Tulip is a nice hotel that is close to Keukenhof gardens (10 minute drive) & the North Sea (1 mile). This place was in a great location to do both. We arrived at the hotel & were greeted by a very friendly woman. She quickly checked us in & explained to us how to find our room. We were asked if we wanted to eat dinner in the dining room, but we decided not to for two reasons...the restaurant is a bit pricey & we wanted to eat by the water. If you are driving out of the hotel parking lot just turn right & it will take you right to the beach, restaurants, & hotels. We thought we had gone to heaven. Since living in Europe we have missed the beach & this was just perfect. We ended up eating at Restaurant De Botter which is a very nice seafood restaurant. The staff was very friendly & was very happy to wait on us. I recommend this restaurant for a nice seafood meal. Ok...back to the hotel. We were a bit concerned when we were walking up to our room because the hotel is a bit out dated. The inside of the rooms weren't too bad though. The bedding is very nice & there is a lot of room to hang up your clothing. There are two closets in the room & we only had a double standard room. They also have a safe, internet (you have to pay for it), & free hotel parking (the hotels by the water charge 20-25 Euro a day) The bathroom seemed a bit outdated, but the water stayed hot & had great pressure. They provide you with the soaps & such that you would expect with a pretty descent hair dryer. They served a good breakfast in the morning with eggs, bacon, sausage, meat, cheese, huge bread selection, pastries, juices, coffee, & tea. The breakfast room is very nice & where we sat you could see the hotels garden. All in all, this is a nice hotel for the money & I would recommend it.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, great location, nice rooms, free parking
  • Disliked — Decor was a little shabby & needs updated
