“BASIC BUT CLEAN”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

I was a bit worried about my stay at this hotel after reading the comments
but decided to keep an open mind. When i arrived i was shown to my single room which was located at the front of the hotel. The room was ok, basic and clean with fridge, hairdryer, safe, no air conditioning which you really would need as even when i left the french door open at night it was still to hot. The balcony gave you a good view out over the lake but it wasn't a private balcony as it was only separated by a rail from your neighbour. As my room was in the corner of the hotel if the people in any of the rooms to my left were out on their balcony at night i had to close my heavy curtain for a little privacy as they could see right into my room. Although the music in the evening stopped around 11pm the noise still continued along the promenade. A socket beside the dressing table would have been appreciated. I tried to make a call from my room on the first evening but just got a dailling tone, again i tried the next evening same thing, i asked the couple in the room next to me and they too had tried to ring from their room but couldn't. I mentioned this the next morning to the lady owner at reception who told me she didn't speak english and called over a young waiter who had to translate the problem. She then said to me in english ' not so important you need to make a call , try again tomorrow' i thought this was rather rude of her as she didn't know if my call was important or not and surely should have tried to solve the problem instead of dismissing me with a shrug of her shoulders. Instead i decided to use the payphones lot less trouble.! The breakfast i thought was good better than most hotels iv'e stayed in. The varied choice meant you didn't have to have the same thing every day.
I had booked a few tours which meant i would miss breakfast as it didn't start till 8am. My first 2 tours i just skipped breakfast , but my last trip didn' it leave the pickup point till 8am. I asked if i could come down to breakfast a little early i was told no, a package would be delivered to my room the night before and would consist of juice, fruit and toast. What i got was juice, fruit, a large lump of ham and cheese slapped between two bits of dry white bread, no toast! It was unattractive to look at and even more unappettising to eat. Needless to say i gave the dry white bread to the ducks!!! sorry guys but you can do better than that.. But what really annoyed me when i came down at 7.45am the next morning to go to the pickup point just along from the hotel there where already people in having breakfast!! perhaps they where the germans who the hotel did seem to favor.! The staff didn't talk much to me, if any, except for the young waiter who spoke english, i found him the most pleasant. I only got a smile and a few words the day i left. I went to have a look at the sun terrace, its just a small flat tiled roof with a few sunloungers . A few potted plants would help make it a bit more attractive. The rooms where kept clean, towels/sheets changed regular. Its not the sort of hotel you could or would want to lounge around in. I can't comment on the snack bar part of the hotel as i didn't eat there .. Although limone is nice I found it to small to spend a lot of time in, 2 weeks is to long. A few day trips you can do yourself by bus its a lot quicker and cheaper than by boat. If i had the choice to stay here again, i wouldn't and i couldn't recommend it either as everyone will have their own opinion, you will either love it or hate it. Your choice!

Room Tip: book a room with air conditioning, check what the view from your room is like. does it have things l...

“Manager”

I've been to many a holiday in my life time, and never had to write a review about a hotel i have stayed in before, the hotel was situated in a lovely location, with a fantastic view of the lake, the problem we had was the staff, more so the manager who in our opinion was the rudest and most uncoperative person i have had the pleasure to meet,he made it so obvious that if you were British he did'nt like or want to know you,or help with the smallest problem,Lemone is a lovely place to holiday, unfortunatley the Hotel Garni Sole is not the place to stay with a manager who so obviosly dislikes the British.

“Rubbish Hotel with Spectacular views.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

The Hotel Sole Limone is in a spectacular location with stunning views of the lake. However, this is where it's charm ends. The hotel was built in 1960 and the decor hasn't changed since!! The staff rarely speak and are very miserable when approached. In fact it was only the cleaners (who do an amazing job, the place was spotless) who actually made any attempts to engage us in conversation. The breakfast although plentiful had no variation whatsoever during our 14 night stay. Every day the same thing!! The orange juice and Peach juice is actually powder added to water and was often un-palateable, we actually began to dread going down. The hotel has no air conditioning and this really needs to be addressed as the rooms were absolutely stiffling, making it impossible to get any quality sleep. We were given a room at the back of the hotel above the kitchen and directly facing a concrete wall overlooked by a restaurant and a house affording us no privacy whatsoever. The kitchen staff were obviously very noisy which meant that we were awake each morning at 7.30 when they arrived for work. Although a request was made to move to another room we were abruptly advised that this was not possible. If you don't mind eating the same thing every day, can cope with extreme heat in your room and are open minded about other people being able to view you sleeping, dressing etc, etc then you will probably find the hotel okay. If on the other hand you like comfort, variety and air conditioning, then this definitely isn't the place for you.

Room Tip: Ensure you request a balcony lake view room so that you will at least get some breeze.

“A week is 6 days too long”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

I would never stay in this hotel again. In fact i will never be back in Lake Garda. Everything you want to see can be seen in 2 days. If you are english speaking then you will need to polish up on your Italian as the staff would rather deal with Germans and Italians than make the effort to help english speaking guests.
There was a general strike called on our 2nd last day. We needed to get to Milan so we had to leave a day early and book a hotel near Milan so that we could catch our flight home. The hotel charged us 126 euro for cancelling the last day and didn't help us in any way to organise transport out of Limone.

Room Tip: Even though the hotel was only 1/4 full we still got a room that was basic to say the least.

“Fantastic central location, good hotel but no A/C.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

The four previous reviews by sharrison, romalot, jeameskea and dk1745 are very fair and I won't repeat their comments except I disagree with the unfavourable comments about the breakfast. I found the breakfast to be excellent for a three star hotel with fresh fruit salad, choice of cereals, breads, cakes, cold meats, tomato and cheese and boiled eggs. The morning coffee was one of the best that I have had in any hotel. The only thing that you will not find is a hot breakfast, which is very common on the continent.

The owner can be a little brisk on first meeting her and she has fairly limited English but if you smile at her or any of the staff and say bungiorna/buona sera they will invariably warm to you. It is really worth paying the extra to get a front lake view as the rear room’s look onto the cliff face abonut 20 feet away. Our room was spacious, very clean and had a fridge, safe and hair dryer. The furniture was old fashioned but this is common in Italy and the water was very slow to heat in the sink in the morning. The view over the lake and pedestrianised promenade is fantastic and the balcony is great for people watching. BEWARE the bedrooms have no air conditioning and it can get very hot in high season. We choose this hotel because of its flat central location, many of the hotels are located a minimum of 5/10 minutes uphill walk from the centre of the resort. Jacky’s restaurant next door to the hotel is excellent with friendly staff and we eat there most evenings. We did not do any of the excursions as most of the started at 7/8am and did not return until 7/8 pm. We highly recommend this hotel and will certainly return.

We dined every evening next door in Jacky’s restaurant which is family run with very friendly staff and good food. For a slightly different dining experience try the two restaurants in the Montebaldo Hotel, particularly the first floor one, which only seats 16 people and has 3 further tables on a small balcony overlooking the lake.

For handmade leather goods visit Leonardo Guizzetti's spacious shop in Riva del Garda at 34 Via Fiume, you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a lake view.
