First of all, I think it is important to note that I believe people expect a very high quality either a) everywhere they go or b) wherever they feel is expensive.
In my view, Italy is an expensive holiday. Compared to the rest of Europe, average £600 for a weeks half board is not cheap, but I think people forget that the cost of living in Italy is more expensive, and holidays are not cheap. Hotel Garda Bellevue was pushing our budget, but we left it last minute as well, and all the cheaper destinations were taken up.
We were given a room in the newer building, clean room with relatively new furnishings and bathroom. Everything worked. Our balcony was gigantic, and although we shared it with next door on paper we had it to ourselves all the time. Our room was right above the pool shop so we overlooked the pool and had a view of the mountains and lake. Fabulous
The sheets may or may not have been changed everyday I cant say I was looking, but the bed was made everyday. Im not the kind of person to change sheets daily at home, and if I have booked a hotel for a week I wouldnt expect that kind of waste either! I appreciate it if the hotel was thinking of the environment and the cost over daily sheet changes. The bathroom was cleaned daily and the towel rule for getting towels changed was followed (although again we mostly kept the same towels as we were happy to air them).
The food was fine, and I was quite happy with the amount and the quality. We did not have any evening meal repeated on us, there were three different options a night for the main plus a full salad bar. Two evenings were special evenings, where we had veal and steak and there was a drink included. I definitely ate enough, and my only complaint would be that the bread rolls were really crusty - but I simply avoided them! The packed lunches for trips include these rolls as well, so thats not great but I can get over it! Breakfast was scrambled eggs, frankfurter sausages, toast, bacon, cereals and continental meat and pastries and fruit - so lots on. There is also afternoon tea/coffee with cake. I think again the attitude to food on here is a little snobbish - perhaps people forget that UK food standards are a lot higher than elsewhere, and that in a little town out of the way there will not be food deliveries everyday like there is in major UK cities. I was well fed and was not ill or dissatisfied at all!
The hotel is really close to the pebble beach and just a short walk down a gentle hill to the town. The staff were nice and many spoke 3 languages, as there are many German guests in north Italy in the summer. The pool bar was very reasonable in price, and they played the international football on a projector, and the guy stayed open if you wanted him to!
The wellness and spa - what a great little afternoon hotspot! Free access to residents, it includes an indoor pool, a flotation salt jacuzzi, heated beds, sauna, steam, kniepel walk (Sp?) ice and cold water treatment as well as a really nice relaxing atmosphere. A brilliant little extra for afternoons which are too hot or you have nothing planned.
Any issue I had with Limone was nothing to do with the hotel, and was mainly to do with the tour operator misleading about a number of things including coach time travel and availability on tours which we had already booked. But like I said thats only worth saying because if you go there with the tour rep it might be worth bearing in mind. It is up to 3-4 hours to get from Limone to the airport via coach, and over 5 hours or more to get to other cities like Venice / Florence. Although this again is nothing to do with the hotel I suggest you consider this before you book, as we naively believed our holiday rep that venice was 2 hours away by coach! If you want to tour, it may be worth looking where is nearer to your places.
All in all it was very good and I would stay again.
