Our view is slightly skewed because we had such a poor room. Whilst we paid First Choice a supplement for an uninterrupted lake view and balcony which we did get, our room was very tired, poor bathroom, tiny, leaking shower and very noisy room. We recommend that you don't pay for a lake view, you would be very unlucky not to get one anyway and in any event the public areas have great views.
Our room (108) was right under the bar area, could be looked into, and was, so no privacy made worse because the aircon in the hotel was not working or switched off for the whole week. So at night had to have the balcony door open, lights off and therefore had to endure the noise from those still in the bar.Very disappointed.
Having had a moan we would point out that we had a really nice holiday because all the staff were great, food was good, the free drinks with evening meal surprisingly good, views magnificent, hotel position excellent (so near to the town and ferries).
Some guests let the side down by hanging around long after they had finished dinner to take advantage of the free drinks, even though bar prices are very reasonable. Also hotel request no shorts at dinner, but sadly a few people ignored this and were better dressed for the beach.
If you go to Monte Baldo make sure you go really early or after 2.00pm. The Thomson rep did not advise us so we queued for hour and a half. Views and experience was marvellous even though. (Thomson reps made us realise why we normally travel independently!!)
Verona is well worth a visit, we did the Verona and wine tour.
We would return to Splendid Palace but would organise independently, and ask all the relevant questions regarding aircon and specific room.
Room Tip: Would sugggest you specify a room on floor 2 with room number above 215 or any room 601 to 810.
